The Center for Teaching & Learning’s Principles of College Teaching (PCT) micro-credential offers graduate student instructors, postdoctoral scholars, faculty and staff the opportunity to enhance their teaching skills at the post-secondary level. Participants are required to complete the following requirements: attend 20 hours of CTL training; complete three reflections designed to address the pedagogical theory of three to five of these workshops; submit a teaching portfolio... Participating in Center for Teaching & Learning approved workshops/trainings (20 hours) Any CTL offering may count towards one hour of the 20 required. When registering and attending events, participants will be given credit. Submission of three Teacher Reflections based on themes and ideas from at least three workshops attended. To recognize graduate teachers who devote time to improve their teaching, the Center for Teaching & Learning, in collaboration with the Graduate School, offers the Certificate in College Teaching (CCT). This certificate requires no coursework, and is free to obtain. Although such certificate programs are not accredited, nearly all institutions with graduate programs offer similar certificates to graduate students. Moreover, those who have earned the CCT report that it is an asset to those seeking faculty, instructor, adjunct, visiting assistant professor and postdoctoral scholar appointments. The Certificate in College Teaching may be awarded to all graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty who complete the requirements and evaluation successfully. Requirements include classroom teaching, participation in CTL workshops and discipline-specific activities, video teacher consultations, a faculty observation, and completing a teaching portfolio.
