This past weekend (April 19), Hunter was immortalized in Boulder, Colo., as his Buffaloes football program retired the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner’s No. 12 jersey. He was joined in the jersey retirement ceremony by teammate, fellow Heisman top 10 finisher and future NFL-er Shedeur Sanders (and his No.
2 jersey) during the Buffs’ Spring Game on Saturday (April 19). And now, Hunter is just two days from learning where he’ll begin his NFL career when the NFL Draft first round kicks off Thursday (April 24) in Green Bay, Wisc. Hunter’s jersey retirement ceremony at the Buffs’ Folsom Field took place ahead of Colorado’s annual spring game, where the newly minted Heisman fraternity member starred for two seasons and became the program’s second Heisman,... Colorado Buffaloes two-way star Travis Hunter is one of the best athletes in the 2025 NFL draft class. Almost every team could use his talent on their roster, but which teams are the best landing spots? Hunter's profile as a draft prospect is unique.
Unlike the hundreds of other draft hopefuls committed to their primary position, Hunter is an above-average talent at wide receiver and cornerback. That means the teams best suited to draft the Heisman Trophy winner are those with big needs at either position – or both. The Colorado product's athleticism and talent at both positions also means he won't fall far in the draft. As a result, Hunter's best landing spots are exclusively teams picking early in the 2025 NFL draft. The following four teams would be best suited drafting Hunter in the 2025 NFL draft. The Patriots are the best landing spot for Hunter because they're a team in need of help at both wide receiver and cornerback.
One year after drafting quarterback Drake Maye with the No. 3 overall pick, New England has spent the 2025 offseason taking advantage of their salary cap space. The Patriots' window of contention appears to be opening with a talented young quarterback on the roster, and the team has spent the second-most money of any team in free agency to build up... Colorado Buffalos' sensation Travis Hunter added yet another trophy to his case this week when he became the first Colorado player to win the Heisman this century and the first since running back Rashaan... That was no surprise: the two-way player was heavily favored to win the Heisman. Entering the week, Hunter was the clear frontrunner to win the award, with odds of -4000, well ahead of other contenders such as Boise State's Ashton Jeanty, Oregon's Dillon Gabriel, and Miami's Cam Ward.
More News: Colorado's Travis Hunter Overwhelmingly Wins 2024 Heisman Trophy Now, the next big question for Hunter is what NFL team will draft him in 2025. Hunter is an unconventional first-round candidate, known for his exceptional play on both offense and defense. Whatever team ends up drafting him will need to assess the value of his entire skill set. When it comes to the best player in the 2025 NFL Draft, we may not even know what position he will play at the next level. Colorado's Travis Hunter is expected to be a top-five pick in April, and the Heisman Trophy winner starred at both cornerback and wide receiver under head coach Deion Sanders.
Hunter was one of these rare two-way players. In 2024, he played 713 offensive snaps and 748 defensive snaps, then collected the Biletnikoff Award as well as Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. He caught 96 passes for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns, while recording 36 total tackles, 11 passes defended and four interceptions on defense. We may have gotten a glimpse at where Hunter will be playing the majority of snaps at the next level. For the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, Hunter is listed as a defensive back. This is notable, although CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones reports Hunter could do some wide receiver work during his pro day.
Wherever Hunter lands in the draft, expect him to play at least a little bit on both sides of the ball. Speaking of landing spots, which teams would be the best fits for Hunter? That's what we are here to discuss. Shades of Jabrill Peppers? I doubt it. Hunter appears to be a better player with a more understood fit.
The Browns need help everywhere, and Hunter is the kind of player who would immediately help any team. However, are the Browns better off taking their Deshaun Watson replacement? The Browns also may get a shot at Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter, who is regarded by some as the top prospect in this draft. Pairing him with Myles Garrett is certainly an attractive option. For the first time since Charles Woodson in 1997, a cornerback won the Heisman Trophy. Colorado star Travis Hunter took home college football's biggest award by 214 points.
The Buffaloes' athlete was one of the best wide receivers in the Big 12 this season and a standout cornerback as well on defense. Unlike top draft prospects in recent years, Hunter will play in a non-College Football Playoff bowl game. Colorado coach Deion Sanders confirmed Hunter and other NFL-bound Colorado players will suit up in the Alamo Bowl against BYU on Dec. 28. After that, it's all about the NFL for Hunter. The Heisman Trophy winner is widely expected to be one of the first three or four players selected in the 2025 NFL draft.
Here's his draft outlook after winning the Heisman Trophy. If Hunter fell outside of the top five of the 2025 NFL draft, it'd be a huge surprise. At 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds and a near-ideal athletic profile, Hunter is the best prospect regardless of position in the class. Despite dropping to 8-3 on the year with a tough loss to Kansas, the Colorado Buffaloes are still alive to make it to the Big 12 Championship Game, and therefore still alive for the... They need to beat Oklahoma State next week and see Kansas State beat Iowa State in Farmageddon to potentially make it to Arlington. Sadly, we may get one more game of Travis Hunter with Colorado...
Hunter is the frontrunner to win the 2024 Heisman Trophy. While other players such as Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, Miami quarterback Cam Ward and Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel are still vying for it, the Heisman feels like Hunter's to lose. He is a special player, one that can make plays in the receiving game, as well as in the defensive backfield. To me, he plays defense in the NFL. So what I want to do today is outline a handful of NFL teams that I think not only could be in position to select Hunter inside of the top five of the 2025... We know that Deion Sanders has said before that his sons and Hunter will only be allowed to play for certain teams.
Well, beggars can't be choosers. The NFL is bigger than college football, so just deal with it. Here are the five teams I envision being in the best position to potentially end up drafting Hunter. Look. I would not wish going to the New York Jets on my worst enemy. However, the forever flightless group we call Gang Green is going nowhere fast and needs another new spark.
Ownership is in question. Aaron Rodgers does not want to play for them anymore. They still need to hire a full-time head coach for next season. I would do the most logical thing and draft Hunter if he falls to the Jets.
