Perhaps too schematically, those on the right tend to be first-person naïve realists in treating economic and social realities as accessible to the ordinary political participant by simple common sense, while those on the... In treating reality as transparent enough to be legible either to oneself or to a group of experts, both sides tend to treat disagreement as a motivational problem-a problem of bad faith, motivated reasoning,...

In obviating the possibility of genuine disagreement, the epistemological crisis is quite naturally transformed into a political crisis. The post-truth arguments about knowledge being clearly a product of history, power, and the central aspect of this era's ideological judgment are the masses' perspectives. Popularly associated with a disregard for the veracity of political disclosure. The truth is determined solely by the existing listeners' manifested beliefs and values that people hold dear, rather than by the evidence presented. This world of lies and deception is supported and enabled by assertions of one or the other truth. Each party's lies are based on claims that they are speaking the truth while their opponent is lying!

Thus, not only is there a cynical use of lying, but there is also a cynical use of truth to ground these liesthis is the contemporary condition, which has been caused to a large... This article examines the concept of epistemic governance during crises, a situation that presents simultaneous challenges of information scarcity and overload. Epistemic governance refers to the processes shaping collective perceptions and influencing the understanding of a situation. The research employs a complexity thinking approach, focusing on the interdependency of phenomena, actors, and events, which resists reductionism and linear thinking. It illustrates how epistemic governance—comprising self-organization, diversity, trust, feedback loops, attractor, and agency—operates in crises. The study advances a novel approach to epistemic governance in crises, promoting effective decision-making and embracing complexity-informed research.

In the digital era, human beings are confronted with an overwhelming flow of data and the accelerating speed of information that exceeds their reflective capacity. This article argues that digital technology has shifted human cognition from reflective depth to reactive immediacy-from the pursuit of meaning to the consumption of data. Using a reflective-critical approach, the paper explores the roots of the epistemic crisis through three interrelated layers: (1) the transformation of the ecology of knowledge within digital culture, (2) the erosion of reflective capacity...

The study concludes that the solution to this crisis lies not in accumulating more information but in restoring reflection as humanity's epistemic compass. Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy, 2012 This column addresses the importance of developing critical thinking to meet the demands of 21st‐century literacies and participatory democracy. The author argues for a critical approach to digital literacies that explores the sociological nature of literacy practices. Students examine examples of new literacies and analyze how ideologies are represented in multimodal texts. Then students use critical understandings of how these texts work in the world to create their own multimodal texts that can act as counter narratives pushing back against mainstream ideologies that exclude diverse perspectives.
