It can lead to privacy violations when individuals are depicted without consent, possibly damaging their reputations. This study employed a systematic literature review as a qualitative methodology to establish deep insights into deepfake technology. The review attained four essential themes: A Tool for Spreading Misinformation and Deception, Deepfakes as Threats to Privacy, Legal and Regulatory Challenges to Political and Media Implication, and Public Perception and Trust. The quick advancement of this technology requires a proactive approach to understanding its implications and ramifications. As AI-generative technology advances, the capability to create more convincing and realistic content is growing aggressively. To lessen the damage that deepfake technology causes to individuals, comprehensive campaigns aimed at raising public awareness of the ethical concerns associated with deepfake content are essential.

This campaign should focus on educating the public about the effects of deepfake, how it is created, and its potential for spreading misinformation. It should also emphasize the importance of technology development and its usage by promoting discussion about the responsible uses of AI. Moreover, fostering a culture of skepticism and critical thinking is vital in combating the effects of deepfake technology.
