The New England Patriots stormed into Orchard Park and defeated the Buffalo Bills in a thrilling Sunday Night Football game. A great team performance all around led to the Patriots earning a 23-20 upset victory over the Bills on the road. Patriots quarterback Drake Maye was sensational in the clutch by leading the team on a game-winning drive in primetime. He finished the game by going 22-of-30 passing for 273 yards. It was the second straight game that he went over the 100-yard receiving mark. Running back Rhamondre Stevenson had a fumble early in the game, but he responded by punching two runs into the end zone for the Patriots. On the defensive side of the ball, New England held the high-powered Bills offense mostly in check. Quarterback Josh Allen struggled to find explosive plays, and Bills running back James Cook was held to only 49 rushing yards. After spending the last five years being treated as little brother to the Buffalo Bills, the Patriots rolled into Orchard Park and punched big brother in the mouth. The game had everything—great defense, highlight reel offensive plays, big momentum swings and the crowning of a new primetime star who went toe-to-toe with the reigning NFL MVP.

Patriots quarterback Drake Maye completed a game-winning drive to knock off Josh Allen and the Bills in a 23-20 win on the road at Orchard Park. It was a signature win for the second-year signal-caller against arguably the best team in the league. Four-time Pro Bowl receiver Stefon Diggs had a massive performance in his return to Buffalo by hauling in 10 receptions for 146 yards in the game. Emotions were clearly high for Diggs, who served as Allen's No. 1 receiver for the four years he spent in Buffalo. However, this time, he arrived as a member of the rival Patriots and helped Maye hand Allen his first loss of the season.

The Patriots' defense deserves a lot of credit for the win as well. They forced three turnovers, including a Marcus Jones interception on Allen. The unit also held Bills running back James Cook to 49 yards rushing. Cornerback Christian Gonzalez came up big late in the game by forcing two incompletions on back-to-back pass attempts by Allen. The New England Patriots have officially won as many games as they did last season, but they managed to do so at the cost of the No. 1 overall pick of the 2025 NFL draft.

Sunday's upset win over the Buffalo Bills does more harm than good for the Patriots. They entered the game with the top pick in the draft, which they could have traded for more picks to help fill their struggling roster. Fans actually cheered against them in the Bills matchup. Of course, the players are competing for their jobs, and it was inevitable that they'd find a way to knock off a Bills team that sat most of its starters. The irony is the fact that the Patriots still didn't give fans much to celebrate, even in victory. Many fans called for the firing of head coach Jerod Mayo, and little did they know, they'd ultimately get their wish after the game.

Here's what fans were saying on social media following the Week 18 win: New England Patriots fans are over the moon after beating the Buffalo Bills 23-20 on the road during Sunday night. The Patriots entered the matchup with a decent 2-2 record to start the 2025 NFL season. They aspire for playoff contention but to do that, they needed to get past a division rival in the Bills. With a 52-yard field goal from Andy Borregales, they took the final lead of the night to get the job done. Borregales from 52 for the lead with 15 seconds to go!
