patriots pull off surprising trade land dream pick in 7 round 2025 nfl

The New England Patriots are a week out from one of the most important NFL drafts in franchise history. It could be a moment that's looked back on as the turning point for a team that lost its way after Tom Brady left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. Or, it'll be remembered as another failed effort by a franchise that went from being the golden standard to one of the worst in the NFL. What side of history will the Patriots be on? All eyes will be on the 2025 NFL draft to see how New England addresses its biggest trouble spots on the roster. In this latest mock draft, I have the Patriots landing their dream target while also pulling off a shocking trade on Day 2.

Here's how the board fell this time around: The Giants don't need another pass rusher, and they've taken far too many looks at quarterback Shedeur Sanders to simply brush it off as a mere coincidence. Russell Wilson being the starting quarterback for the Giants in a division with the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles and NFC runner-up Washington Commanders won't make a difference. Get ready to meet a young purebred Yorkshire Terrier who is looking for a forever family after being rescued from his neglectful previous home. Great Dog Rescue New England (GDRNE), a dedicated foster-based dog rescue in Massachusetts, would like you to meet Benji. According to the rescue, “Benji was saved as a part of a police operation in Tennessee to shut down a backyard breeder/hoarding situation where he had been used as a male stud dog.

Benji is ready to go to his new forever home as soon as possible and is ready to start his next chapter!” Imagine standing in a Wisconsin gas station, browsing the snack aisle—and there, nestled between the candy bars and energy drinks, sits a brightly-labelled “THC gummy.” It promises a psychoactive buzz without the criminal risk... And that’s exactly why thousands of Wisconsinites are now buying it. A local and dedicated foster-based dog rescue in Massachusetts, Great Dog Rescue New England (GDRNE), would like you to meet Branson Bounce, a young puppy who recently came into their care through tragic means. According to the rescue, “The Bounce pups were rescued in Georgia, after their momma had passed away unexpectedly and they were found as strays.” After being rescued, Branson and his siblings were all placed... But now Branson is the only one left who still has not found a forever home.

Meet Harper Lee, a happy young dog who has overcome much hardship and is searching for her forever home. Great Dog Rescue New England (GDRNE), a dedicated foster-based dog rescue in Massachusetts, recently highlighted Harper Lee, a mixed-breed girl who came into their care some time ago. According to the rescue, “Harper came into foster care a small, frail, and emaciated puppy; her legs were terribly deformed. We had hoped that it was just rickets and proper nutrition could fix her legs. Sadly, the rickets had already done permanent damage to her bones. She did wear a brace for a while on the worst-shaped leg, and it helped straighten it out some.”

A little 2-year-old Pekingese pup named Pearl is searching for her second chance at happiness after overcoming a very difficult past. Great Dog Rescue New England (GDRNE), a dedicated foster-based dog rescue in Massachusetts, has introduced Pearl after she recently came into their care. According to the rescue, “Pearl was rescued as part of an operation to shut down a backyard breeder/hoarding situation in Tennessee. The police were called in to close down this negligent and abusive operation.” The New England Patriots have stockpiled the assets necessary to attack the many holes on their roster through free agency and the 2025 NFL draft. It's important to note that this isn't a deep draft when it comes to offensive difference-makers.

That doesn't many talents won't pan out, but it's an indicator that the Patriots might want to stick to the philosophy of drafting the best players available over reaching for positions of need. The thinking with this particular mock draft is that the Patriots make full use of their top-ranked salary cap space to address multiple areas of need on the roster. That would enable them to draft more freely without the urge to force a pick out of desperation. Here's how the board turned out for the Patriots in our latest 2025 NFL mock draft: The Patriots need a game-wrecker on defense, and Abdul Carter is a one-man demolition show. His elite playmaking abilities have been compared to Dallas Cowboys' star edge rusher Micah Parsons for good reasons.

The New England Patriots entered free agency with over $127 million in cap space, knowing they needed to overhaul their roster. They focused on filling major holes, increasing leadership and adding talent at key positions. Their free agency approach was not about signing superstars but about raising the floor of the roster and putting themselves in a position to draft the best player available instead of being forced to... Key signings like Milton Williams, Robert Spillane, Morgan Moses, Carlton Davis III and Mack Hollins show that Mike Vrabel and the front office are committed to improving both the talent and the culture in... They replaced aging veterans like David Andrews, Jonathan Jones and Deatrich Wise Jr. with players who fit their new vision.

Now, with free agency behind them, it’s time for the Patriots to use the draft to add young foundational pieces for the future. This mock draft will focus on impact players, depth pieces and developmental prospects who can grow alongside quarterback Drake Maye and help shape the next era of Patriots football. The New England Patriots went into the NFL Scouting Combine with plenty of roster questions and a need to build around quarterback Drake Maye. This year's draft is a pivotal one for the franchise, and the team will look to address key weaknesses while also stockpiling assets for the future. While the combine won’t drastically change draft boards, it serves as an opportunity to confirm scouting reports and evaluate prospects against higher-level competition. With Mike Vrabel now leading the team and Josh McDaniels back as offensive coordinator, expect the Patriots to prioritize the trenches, offensive playmakers and defensive versatility.

Without further ado, let’s get into this full 7-round mock draft for the Patriots. Patriots receive: Pick No. 6 (Round 1), Pick No. 68 (Round 3) and Pick No. 106 (Round 4) The Patriots trade back from No.

4 to No. 6, picking up a third and fourth-round pick from the Raiders while still securing one of the best offensive linemen in the draft. After a big trade down in the first round, the Patriots grab offensive and defensive weapons in this mock. We are just about two weeks away from the start of the NFL Draft, and, while it looks like there might be a little more clarity at the top, nothing is certain just yet. With that being said, the following mock draft has Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter off the board by the time the New England Patriots are up at No 4. Knowing that we start there, this is where I decided to take the team.

We filled some needs, we had some fun, and, I think, we brought a bunch of talent and potential to the halls at One Patriot Place. As always, I am using the rankings from the NFL Mock Draft Database next to each of the players drafted. My previous mock drafts can be found here: Bye Week | 1.0 | 2.0 | 3.0 | 4.0 TRADE: Patriots trade 1-4 to Indianapolis Colts for 1-14, 2-45, and a 2026 3rd-round pick: When discussing teams that have needs, the Colts are often ignored. This is a big year for them, however: Shane Steichen is going into his third season as head coach, and they have been mediocre both years of his tenure so far. If they are high enough on a player, a trade like this makes a ton of sense for them.

You don’t give up any serious future capital, and they get a player that they covet at No. 4 overall. For the Patriots, a trade down might be the best case scenario assuming Hunter or Carter are both gone.
