Organising Your Local Community One Million Rising S Campaign Against
Across the country, authoritarian forces are getting bolder and more dangerous. Trump and his allies are not hiding their agenda: mass deportations, rollbacks of civil rights, weaponized courts, and full-scale attacks on our democracy. We don’t have to wait until it’s too late. We can stop this. But it’ll take all of us—not just single days of mass action, but sustained organizing in our communities. That’s why this summer, we’re launching One Million Rising—a national effort to train one million people in the strategic logic and practice of non-cooperation, as well as the basics of community organizing and campaign...

One Million Rising sprouted from the No Kings protests that took place across the US in June 2025 where millions of Americans marched peacefully to protest Donald Trump’s policies and actions. No Kings is a coalition of pro-democracy partner organizations including Indivisible, MoveOn and American Civil Liberties Union. One Million Rising is training one million people to resist authoritarianism through a series of trainings and local gatherings – their aim is to build strategy, skills and people power to get organised. “From the No Kings national mobilization to local organizing, millions have already taken defiant action and joined the movement against authoritarianism. Our next step is to direct that momentum into mass, decentralized pressure that compels key institutions to defect from Trumpism. We have to strike while the iron is hot—before the regime locks in even more power.

(Photo: Tom Williams/CQ-Roll Call, Inc via Getty Images) Indivisible says its goal is "to train one million people in the strategic logic and practice of non-cooperation, as well as the basics of community organizing and campaign design." Progressive advocacy organization Indivisible is launching an ambitious new campaign aimed at training more than one million organizers to oppose the policies of U.S.
President Donald Trump and his administration. Over the next several weeks, Indivisible will be hosting online organizing sessions as part of its One Million Rising initiative, which it describes as "a national effort to train one million people in the... Let’s build a force bigger than fear and louder than hate. Let’s get ready. Let’s get organized. Let’s stop MAGA.
One Million Rising builds on Indivisible’s No Kings mobilization. It introduces basic campaign design and teaches how to implement that design locally and as part of a national campaign. The first two One Million Rising webinars were in July. Did you miss them? That's OK! You can use the YouTube links below to watch the previous sessions on demand and catch up before session 3 on August 13.
Session 1, The Moment & Your Mission, describes the theory of action, based on the pillars of support for civil society. MAGA has been extorting compliance from organizations that comprise several of these pillars to prop up an authoritarian regime. Media businesses, institutions of higher education, and federal government agencies and their labor unions are prominent examples. But we the people can organize to weaken those pillars and restore a truly representative democracy. Session 2, How to Make it Happen, lays out the specific steps for hosting a gathering to organize a piece of a movement. It entails meeting with friends and neighbors, conversing about the state of democracy, and generating active involvement in resistance efforts.
Historically, sustained, broad-based resistance has been effective in dislodging authoritarian regimes. Strategic Non-Cooperation to Fight Authoritarianism Many of you have asked about Indivisible National’s latest campaign, One Million Rising, and how Indivisible Charlotte will engage with it. Given the urgency of this moment, we want to explain what the initiative is, how you can take part, and how ICLT will align with its goals. Coming out of Hands Off and No Kings Day of Actions, millions have already mobilized against authoritarianism. Our next step is to pivot that momentum into mass, decentralized pressure that compels key institutions to defect from Trumpism.
We have to strike while the iron is hot—before even more power locks in. As part of the No Kings call to action, One Million Rising is a three-part series that includes virtual calls and trainings, and in-person gatherings. Our goal is to train one million people by having call attendees just like you host your own in person gatherings to facilitate a conversation with your community. We are asking you to register private resistance gatherings in your local community, with a goal of having about 10 people within your network at your gathering - we know some will be smaller,... From one of the largest days of protest in US history to the daily act of organizing in every congressional district in this country, Indivisibles are standing up against authoritarianism. Join us.
Every Thursday, Indivisible co-founders Ezra Levin and Leah Greenberg help wade through the week’s news, answer your questions, and provide timely calls to action. Local groups build and wield power in ways that individuals can’t. To create change, you need the power that comes with working together. Indivisible National is launching a massive effort to train one million people in the strategic logic and practice of noncooperation, as well as the basics of community organizing and campaign design. The first training was held on Wednesday, July 16, and broke Zoom with 150,000 people in attendance. You can review the recording here.
And view the slides here. Presenters emphasized that when the pillars propping up the wannabe king (for example, corporations, labor unions, faith-based institutions, educational institutions, civil servants, military/police) are no longer incentivized to capitulate, power shifts. Effective noncooperation on a large scale causes pillars of support to defect, or at least no longer reliably support the autocrat’s aims. Presenters will go deeper into noncooperation tactics in upcoming calls scheduled for Wednesday, July 30, and Wednesday, August 13. Register here. As I clicked on the link to attend the Indivisible zoom training on July 16, I was excited.
I thought about how my sister and I have attended multiple protests, “Stand Outs” on bridges with our creatively made signs, sent post cards, written letters, and made phone calls, and yet … We... My sister observed, “It seems like all the events and actions are separate, but how do they work together?” I believed that this Zoom meeting was going to help answer this question, and it... Indivisible held the first of a 3-part series of online meetings called “One Million Rising: Strategic Non-Cooperation to Fight Authoritarianism” on July 16. The Zoom room filled very quickly to capacity with 20,000 participants from across the country. Since 130,000 registered, many of us watched the livestream on other platforms. The One Million Rising Project will train and mobilize one million Americans to stand up to the increasingly aggressive attacks on democracy being waged by the current administration.
The stated goal is to train folks “in the strategic logic and practice of non-cooperation, as well as the basics of community organizing and campaign design.” The One Million Rising Movement is using a train-the-trainer model. All of us on the Zoom call and watching on You Tube (and even those reading this) are potential trainers in our own communities. There is great potential for exponential growth. In fact, that’s the plan. The Urgency of the Moment: The rise of authoritarianism in the US
