The OneNote Class Notebook is an app that helps you set up OneNote in your class. This app will create a class notebook, which includes three types of sub-notebooks: Student Notebooks—private notebooks that are shared between each educator and their individual students. Educators can access these notebooks at any time, but students cannot see other students' notebooks. Content Library—a notebook for educators to share course materials with students. Educators can add and edit its materials, but for students, the notebook is read-only.

Collaboration Space—a notebook for the students and educator of the class to share, organize, and collaborate in. In addition, we have released the Class Notebook Add-in, which is a tool that improves Class Notebook's efficiency for educators. This add-in is freely available for all users of OneNote 2016 for Windows. To learn more, see Class Notebook add-in for OneNote for Windows. Class Notebook, a key feature of OneNote, is a powerful tool for enhancing distance learning and online education. Each Class Notebook includes a Content Library for educators to share course materials, a Collaboration Space for interactive online learning activities, and a private notebook for each student.

Once a Class Notebook is created, both educators and students can access it from any device using the OneNote app, making it an ideal solution for remote learning. To get started, sign in to Class Notebook using the login credentials provided by your school. You will create your Class Notebook through your web browser, facilitating online teaching and virtual classroom experiences. Next, select Create a Class Notebook in the Class Notebook Wizard. The Class Notebook Wizard will guide you through the steps to set up your notebook for online education: Name Your Notebook: Enter a name for your Class Notebook to easily identify it in your online learning platform.​​​​​​​

Mac and OneNote for Windows 10 users do not need to download the add-in—it will automatically appear after you create or open a Class Notebook.
