Northeastern’s Public Safety Division provides an on-campus personal safety escort service for the Boston campus, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. To request a ride, call the Northeastern University Police at (617) 373-2121. Tell them your name, Northeastern ID number, exact location, and destination.

Public Safety also provides an off-campus shuttle escort from Snell Library to return to your off-campus apartment between 5:00pm and 6:00am. The RedEye shuttle is free and provides drop off service to locations within two miles of the center of campus. To use the RedEye shuttle, students MUST book a ride in advance using the RedEye App OR in person at the RedEye dispatch center, located in the Northeastern Security office inside the Ruggles substation. Hi, my name is Jason Wu, and I’m the Library Ambassador on the Seattle campus. As a Husky in Seattle, I know making the most of the right resources can significantly enhance your academic journey. Today, I’m excited to share a few tips on how to explore the Northeastern library website for both research and leisure reading. Note: Although we don’t have a physical library on campus at this time, there is a bookshelf on the 3rd floor of the 225 Building where you’re welcome to read and enjoy a selection... The Seattle Campus Library Portal is your gateway to research resources curated by expert librarians. This portal provides subject-specific guides tailored to the programs offered at the Seattle campus.

If you’d like to get an SPL library card, your Husky Card serves as a valid ID for registration. Northeastern’s electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) provide a valuable record of the university’s scholarly contributions, capturing the evolution of research across numerous academic disciplines over the past two decades. The Digital Repository Service (DRS) preserves all ETDs from 2008 onward, along with selected earlier works, creating a collection of more than 7,500 items spanning over 30 departments and nearly 70 academic programs. As some of the DRS’ most frequently accessed materials, ETDs offer rich insights into the university’s academic history and digital presence.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the DRS, Digital Production Services (DPS) — the department responsible for managing both the DRS and ETDs — set out to share insights into how theses and dissertations... The ETDs are initially submitted to ProQuest by graduate students as a condition of their graduation. The rules for the submission package and document organization are determined by each program. Once the submission is completed and the student fills out information about their ETD, the file and metadata are sent in via a zip file to a library server. Over the last 5+ years, a local workflow has been developed to: New ETDs are processed and ingested every 2-3 months, depending on the time of year and the volume of ETD submissions, and can involve anywhere from 30 to 100 ETDs at a time.

DOIs are generated and ETD contributor names are reviewed bi-annually. The total number of ETDs submitted by Northeastern students has increased significantly since 2008. From 2008-2010, there was an average of around 190 documents submitted annually. As the 2010s continued, that number steadily increased from 353 in 2013 to 583 in 2019. There was a small dip in 2020, possibly due to COVID interrupting degree completions, but since then, there have been approximately 540-590 ETDs submitted each year. The Northeastern University Library serves the entire Northeastern community—in Boston, Oakland, across the global university system, and online.

The Library provides collections and services supporting research and teaching across disciplines. Its collections are extensive, with a large proportion available digitally. The Library's collections include nearly 1.5 million e-books; almost 500,000 print titles; more than 180,000 licensed e-journals; and more than 270,000 streaming audio and visual titles. Access to print and electronic materials is provided through Scholar OneSearch, the Library's discovery platform. The Library's Archives and Special Collections hold historical records and publications of Northeastern and unique materials preserving the history of Boston's social movements, public infrastructure, neighborhoods, and natural environments. Services provided by the Library include both on-site (in Boston and in Oakland) and online research help, the latter including 24/7 live chat with a reference librarian; subject-specialist librarians who provide in-depth consultation and...

The Library actively supports the unique needs of graduate students in research and publishing through services such as citation management workshops, research data support, and digital scholarship services. The Snell Library building in Boston is open to all Northeastern students, faculty, and staff. Spaces in the building include areas for group work and quiet individual study, with more than 50 group study rooms with whiteboards and plug-in displays for collaborative group work. Individual study rooms are also available for graduate students. The Library supports a range of creative activities and includes studios for audio recording and video production. F.

W. Olin Library in Oakland is open to all Northeastern students, faculty, and staff, as well as Mills College and Northeastern University alumni and community members. The Library offers a collection of 200,000 volumes and other media supporting the curricular needs of the programs on the Oakland campus. Spaces in the building include areas for quiet study and group work, including reservable study rooms, a seminar room, and the student lounge. F. W.

Olin Library houses special collections in the Elinor Raas Heller Rare Book Room. Oakland special collections include early printed books, contemporary fine press and artists' books, the Mills College Archive, and other archives and manuscripts. The School of Law Library, located on four floors in the Knowles Law Center, includes a comprehensive collection of U.S. legal materials in print and in electronic format. Of particular note is the library’s collection in the areas of public interest law; international human rights law; and public health, death penalty issues, and progressive lawyering.
