Nfl Predictions 2025 Sporting News Expert Picks For Final Standings
How might the AFC and NFC division races all play out during the 2025 NFL regular season? What surprises might be in store with the 14 total playoff teams? Although the league is loaded with some elite quarterbacks and powerhouse teams that profile well to be in Super Bowl contention again, there always is room for a few surprises. The parity isn't was it once was for those who have MVP-caliber QBs leading teams vs. those who do not, but still a dangerous offense is imperative to win a lot. Ultimately, however, the team that has best clutch supportive defense tends to win the championship.
Here's how Super Bowl 60 sets up to be won by a familiar favorite, from the journey to the final destination in Santa Clara, Calif., next Feb. 8. NFL HQ: Live NFL scores | Full NFL schedule | Updated NFL standings The Bills keep being the stable all-around force with the reigning MVP at quarterback, Josh Allen, backed up by a deep defense and a strong running game with a well-paid James Cook. a tough schedule suggests the end of the Mike McDaniel eara. The 2025 NFL schedule release was the final piece of the puzzle towards projecting the upcoming season. While we already knew all 17 opponents for each franchise, we can see how the season could evolve based on tough stretches, bye weeks, and the timing of certain matchups. With the NFL schedule in place, let’s take a look at how PFSN’s Football Playoff Meter (FPM) projects the 2025 season. After that, we’ll fire up PFSN’s Playoff Predictor and see what happens in a single simulation of the 2025 season. Taken from CSN’s Football Playoff Meter, the NFL version of FPM projects the 2025 season unfolding like this in each conference based on the early preseason projections.
Per usual, the Big Three of the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, and Kansas City Chiefs have the top-three win and playoff projections in the AFC. However, the Chiefs project to face a much more difficult path to winning the division in the deep AFC West compared to the Bills and Ravens. The highest AFC win projection for a non-playoff team from 2024 belongs to the Cincinnati Bengals. Most metrics projected the Bengals favorably due to their high-powered offense and the fact that the majority of their losses came in tight games in 2024. The battle between humans and AI hasn't quite reached T2 levels just yet, but it's clear the computers are pulling ahead. Unwilling to sit on the sidelines while the algos become our overlords, we've decided to strap on our figurative helmets and get in on the action.
So, below you'll find two human takes on how the 2025 NFL regular season will unfold. We've each gone through the entire schedule, team by team, week by week, separately projecting who will win during opening weekend, on Thanksgiving Day, in each season finale and every game in between. You'll find our conference seeding for the entire playoff field, including our individual picks for the eight division winners and six wild-card teams. Sure, our two sets of season-long projections might not be rooted in advanced metrics, sophisticated models or fancy formulas, but we can tell you in no uncertain terms that we considered the important stuff... like revenge games, longstanding team stats involving players and coaches no longer with those clubs, and -- most importantly -- gut instincts. Who needs thousands or even millions of simulations when one of the two scenarios featured below is destined to come to fruition?
(It's pretty clear which one.) Can't wait to hear the positive feedback. Try not to reach out all at once. Some people get worked up about preseason NFL rankings, especially when our numbers suggest that their favorite team will be worse than the popular consensus. That’s to be expected. No one else ranks teams exactly like we do, and our approach often discounts things that many pundits think matter.
We also have very specific goals for our preseason ratings—chiefly, to predict margins of victory this season—which don’t always line up with other rankings makers. Predicting how 32 teams will perform over a full season is hard. No system is perfect, including ours. We’ll get some teams a little wrong and some very wrong. But over time, our approach has done well by the yardsticks we care about most, like predicting game margins and end‑of‑season performance levels. Don’t just look at where a team is ranked—look at the rating next to it.
Ratings show how tightly bunched teams are and where the real tiers are. For example, in our 2025 preseason ratings: The start of the 2025 NFL season is just days away, which means it's time to make some predictions. My favorite part of making predictions is when people throw them back in my face at the end of the season, but that won't be happening this year, because I don't plan on getting... That being said, if you do want to make fun of my predictions, you can send all your hate messages to me on X by clicking here. Before we get to my predictions, let me explain how things are going to work here: I'm going to go through each division and predict each team's final record.
After that, I'll be making one bold prediction for each division. Once you roll through the divisional portion of these predictions, you'll see my playoff picks and eventually the team I'm picking to win the Super Bowl. In two of the past nine years, my preseason Super Bowl pick has ended up winning it all, so if you want to skip everything and scroll straight down to my Super Bowl pick... Now that we know the order in which the games will be played, it's the time of year where I go through and pick every game on the 2025 slate. From Week 1 to Week 18, every game was picked, and the following are the resulting standings from those picks. Read 'em and weep. The Bengals were 4-4 in games in which they scored 30+ points in 2024 - that defense will be better by default, and the offense will continue to be explosive with all of their... No team has ever won the AFC North three consecutive times, and a deadly Bengals team should rebound and get back on top. Baltimore isn't going anywhere, though.
They'll be a playoff team as the top Wild Card seed in the AFC. However, the Ravens have been the Wal-Mart Christmas section of the NFL since drafting Lamar Jackson. They show up from September to December and disappear by January. Every year they don't win is a wasted year. The Steelers will find a way to win 10 games as they do every year before getting blown out in the postseason, and then we have to pretend it's impressive what Mike Tomlin is... Though a few teams finish around where most people would expect in our 2025 season projections, there are some surprising landing spots among the best and worst teams from last season.
Can Saquon Barkley and the Philadelphia Eagles repeat as Super Bowl champions? Will Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs win the AFC again? With free agency, the NFL Draft and schedule release in the books and training camp finally underway, we have more than enough to put our supercomputer to work. It crunched the numbers, ran 1,000 simulations and determined each team’s projected record and chances to make the playoffs, win their division and reach the Super Bowl. Each club earned a “team score,” which was derived from player ratings, roster depth charts and coaching changes. Our supercomputer also analyzed home-field advantage for each team based on its scoring output at home versus the road compared to other teams.
