In March 2025, we updated our SAT Digital practice test scoring methodology and increased the difficulty of our SAT full-length practice tests. These updates are in response to new Digital SAT practice tests College Board released on February 3, 2025, and our analysis of actual student results from the past academic year. Keep reading for detailed changes. Before we delve into the new, harder Digital SAT practice tests College Board released on February 3, 2025, let’s go back through the history of the released practice tests. College Board first announced the new Digital SAT at the start of 2022, and released the original four practice tests in November of that year. These tests were the first look at the new Digital SAT, which domestic students started taking in March of 2024 (international students began taking the test the previous March).
These first four practice tests were the only ones available to students until March of 2024, when College Board released two additional tests, tests 5 and 6, on the Bluebook app. Before Feb. 3, 2025, no tests had ever been removed from the Bluebook app. That means that this marks the most intensive change in available Digital SAT practice tests that has happened since the Digital SAT was announced. In addition to the official tests, we offer a free sample of the next-generation SAT practice test. This is designed to give you a taste of what to expect on the actual test day, helping you to focus your study efforts effectively. The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) is a standardized test used by many colleges and universities as part of the admissions process. It is the most widely used college entrance exam. About 85 million Americans have taken the SAT for college admission since the Scholastic Aptitude Test (as it was then known) was first administered in 1926. In 2000–2001 alone, more than 2 million students took the SAT, given several times a year at different locations worldwide.
Most students take the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test (PSAT 10 or PSAT/NMSQT) in tenth grade. The PSAT is a practice test for the SAT. However, the score may determine whether or not you are eligible for a National Merit Scholarship, so this test also has ramifications. Practice our SAT Practice Test on this site to discover your strengths and weaknesses. For example, if you have trouble writing an essay in the time allocated, concentrate on learning this skill. Completing similar tests will also help you know how to use your time best.
The lack of official Digital SAT© tests from the College Board has been frustrating students for 2 years. Good News! The College Board has announced that current tests 1-3 will be removed, and tests 4-6 will remain. A new test 7 will be added, and tests 8-10 will be a combination of questions from tests 1-3 and new questions. I have been teaching the SAT since 2001, and have survived several of these changes to the SAT©. Frequently, the initial sample tests are not well aligned with the tests students take.
This change signals that tests 1-3 have questions that are not well aligned. The new tests 8-10 will better match the current digital SAT©. If you haven’t taken tests 1-3 in the Bluebook App already, please don’t rush to do them. Tests 8-10 will contain some of the same questions, and you don’t want to skew your practice with the new tests. Because even with these additions, the number of available tests is limited. You should plan your use of the practice tests.
Try to reserve 1 or 2 tests for the 2 weeks before your official test date. Take these tests under realistic conditions: use accurate timing, use the computer you plan to use on test day, and take the test at 9 am. Students sometimes give themselves too much leeway and extend their time or break up the test and complete it on different day. Consequently, they are not getting an accurate idea of what it is like to take the test under realistic conditions. With a year of digital testing under its belt, The College Board recently announced a series of SAT updates. The most notable:
Beginning February 3, 2025, Practice Tests #1, #2, and #3 have been removed from Bluebook and replaced by one totally new test, #7, and three additional tests (#8, #9, and #10) that will combine... Stay tuned for our deep-dive review of the new tests. The Desmos calculator on Bluebook now includes a powerful new feature: Autoregression. By entering Cartesian points into a table (type “table” to start), students will be able to generate regression models to solve linear, quadratic, and exponential equations. Starting Spring, 2025, most AP exams will shift to digital formats on Bluebook, though some will remain in hybrid or traditional test booklet formats: SAT in 2025 - Everything You Need to Know

Increasing Your Digital SAT Score from 1400 to 1500 Actionable strategies in both Reading/Writing and Math sections to boost your SAT score to a competitive 1500 Laura Whitmore from Strategic Test Prep recently attended the National Test Prep Association (NTPA) conference in Minnesota, where a Vice President from the College Board shared some major insights about the SAT. If you're a student, parent, or tutor preparing for the digital SAT, these updates matter.
Here’s a summary of what we learned from Laura's report: 1. Thousands of New SAT Questions Are Coming The College Board plans to release "thousands" of new official practice questions this year in the student question database. These will reflect the current digital SAT format more accurately. Laura said she asked if these questions could be tagged or filtered in their online system so educators and students can easily find the most up-to-date questions.
No promise yet, but she made the need clear and College Board said it was a good idea, so perhaps in the student question database there will be a filter to find the latest... 2. New Full-Length Practice Tests in Bluebook Find full-length practice tests on Bluebook™ as well as downloadable paper (nonadaptive) practice tests to help you prepare for the SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, and PSAT 8/9. Find a test preview and official full-length practice tests on the Bluebook app. Download PDFs of full-length paper (nonadaptive) practice tests, which are recommended for students who will test with paper-based accommodations on test day.
