Cloud marketplace Pax8 has rolled out separate initiatives that include the launch of Pax8 Labs and an expanded partnership with Microsoft to strengthen managed service providers’ AI capabilities. Pax8 Labs was created to focus on new initiatives that drive toward leadership in AI automation and implementation, starting with infrastructure for AI agent deployment for small- to medium-sized business (SMB) partners. It will accelerate agent adoption across the Pax8 ecosystem, bringing enterprise-grade AI capabilities, such as the Microsoft Agent Framework, to channel partners, thereby driving intelligence into the SMB market. As Microsoft and others evolve their agent strategies, Labs will rapidly deliver what MSPs need to deploy them, from technical infrastructure to business model innovation. Pax8 has been working towards enabling MSPs to help SMBs who are looking for trusted advisors to provide guidance on the adoption of agentic AI to automate and improve tasks. These SMBs are looking to create operational efficiencies to respond to market pressures.

Microsoft’s new “Copilot for SMB” simply bundle the existing Microsoft 365 Business suites with the $30 USD Microsoft 365 Copilot Add-on, providing three new on-ramps for the SMB market. Functionally, nothing changes inside the SKU - the question is which base suite (Business Basic, Standard or Premium) gives your 300-user organisation the security, compliance and management footprint required for a Zero-Trust-ready Copilot rollout. Add the new security suites at $15, and you reach $67 for the Premium tier. On the surface, this appears to offer more incremental onboarding routes. Instead, they are going to drive governance debt that will amplify business risk. This pattern will look familiar to those of us in the Microsoft licensing ecosystem.

It mirrors precisely the strategic positioning Microsoft has executed at enterprise scale with E3 versus E5. Organisations should understand the $67 configuration isn't "premium" positioning but a minimum viable security architecture for AI in business. This will accelerate the shift of MSPs into the Managed Intelligence era. Pax8 is building a Managed Intelligence Toolkit, which is a purpose-built unified environment for MSPs to orchestrate, scale and manage agentic automation across their SMB customers.

By integrating Model Context Protocol (MCP) into Pax8's Marketplace commerce APIs and catalog infrastructure, Microsoft Copilots and agents will interact with the Marketplace directly. In this effort, Pax8 will include the use and delivery of Microsoft Copilot Studio, Microsoft Azure AI Foundry, Model Context Protocol (MCP), and Microsoft Entra Agent ID, with Pax8's Marketplace, orchestration infrastructure, and partner... Together, these technologies will enable agents to search, procure, and orchestrate services autonomously and in real time, allowing MSPs to become even better strategic advisors to their clients. As a result, MSPs will evolve into Managed Intelligence Providers (MIPs), delivering more than just infrastructure but agentic transformation and business outcomes to their SMB clients. "MSPs are no longer just managing infrastructure—they're managing intelligence," said Scott Chasin, CEO at Pax8. "Our platform development utilizing the latest Microsoft AI solutions will unlock a future where SMBs can scale through digital labor, and MSPs become the architects of that transformation."
