He swept the major awards in 2024—winning the Walter Camp Award (best overall player), the Biletnikoff Award (top receiver), and the Bednarik Award (best defensive player)—and enters the 2025 draft as arguably the best... Despite things seemingly looking up for the New England Patriots vibe-wise, there is still much work that needs to be done to get the team in any sort of shape to contend in the... The Patriots probably have the worst offensive supporting cast in the NFL to aid the talented Drake Maye, with a dearth of ability both catching and running the ball, alongside a very questionable offensive...
As the Philadelphia Eagles showed the world in emphatic fashion last Sunday, championships are won in the trenches, and pundits have this reflected in various Patriots mock drafts, where they believed to have a... However, New England’s need for talent is not limited to the big boys, with their receiver group clocking in as arguably the league’s worst. The Patriots ranked dead last (32nd) in passing yards this past season, with their leading receiver being veteran tight end, Hunter Henry, with 674. Although the Pats have some nice young weapons in former 6th round picks, Demario Douglas and Kayshon Boutte, who combined for 1210 yards in 2024, the team desperately needs a #1 option for Maye. And last year’s early second round pick, Ja’Lynn Polk, did almost nothing in 2024 to suggest he can be a valuable piece of the puzzle for New England moving forward. The New England Patriots have widely been talked about as a potential seller ahead of the upcoming NFL trade deadline.
With under a week away, it sure sounds like they might also be interested in being a buyer. According to a report from NFL insider Josina Anderson, the Patriots are looking into the trade market for help at wide receiver, defensive tackle and offensive tackle. I’m told the #Patriots are monitoring the trade market to potentially add talent at WR, DT or T positions on the heels of the rousing 25-22 win of the NY #Jets, per source. The trade... That is a major surprise. It's also something that New England fans should be extremely excited to hear. While it's not likely that the Patriots will be a huge buyer for just any talent, they'll be looking for impact players that can be long-term additions.
There will be a few players that could be legitimate additions to help compete now and for the future. 🎙UPCOMING BROADCASTS: 7 AM - 4 PM, PATRIOTS MONDAY (WEEI SIMULCAST) On this edition of Patriots All Access, go behind the scenes in his first 24 hours with the Patriots #1 pick Will Campbell. Patriots Executive Vice President of Player Personnel Eliot Wolf sits down with Scott Zolak to look back at the Patriots 2025 Draft Class. Patriots.com writers Mike Dussault, Paul Perillo and Evan Lazar go down the list of New England's 11 draft picks, analyzing their college careers and potential roles on the Patriots 2025 roster. The New England Patriots made significant strides in their effort to add as many roster pieces as possible in free agency. It was a smart approach that put them in a spot where they aren't necessarily locked in at a position with the No. 4 pick of the 2025 NFL draft. They're better positioned to go into the draft with the mentality of selecting the best available player.
That could be at a number of different positions, including offensive tackle, wide receiver, edge rusher and running back. It's a good position to be in for a team with four picks in the first 100 picks of the draft. Today, we're going to look at the roster and predict who would make the team in its current state. Keep in mind, this list won't include the upcoming rookie draft picks. Here's a 53-man roster projection for the Patriots ahead of the 2025 NFL draft: The Patriots are currently down to only two quarterbacks after trading Joe Milton III to the Dallas Cowboys.
They are expected to add a third quarterback through the draft or the crop of undrafted free agents. But there's no doubt in anyone's mind that Drake Maye is the guy in New England. Pro Football and Sports Network covers all the major professional sports, including the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, Tennis, WNBA, NASCAR, and more. The New England Patriots are in year two of the Drake Maye era and are off to a 1-1 start to begin the season. Maye has looked solid in the first two weeks, but the surrounding weapons are lackluster to say the least. While there isn’t a major solution the Patriots can make in-season, they could look to add another receiver, and they were recently predicted to do just that in a projected trade for a wideout...
Maye’s rookie year in New England was solid. After being taken No. 3 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Patriots, he started 12 games last season, throwing for 2,276 yards, 15 touchdowns, and ten interceptions while adding 421 yards and two scores on the... He looks more comfortable and improved this season. He was nearly perfect in the Patriots’ week two game against the Dolphins, completing 19 of 23 attempts for 230 yards and recording three total touchdowns. A spectacular rookie campaign from Drake Maye has given the entire New England Patriots franchise a ton to be optimistic about.
Since Tom Brady’s days, the organization hasn’t engaged in an offseason quite as frantic as this one. Hiring Mike Vrabel as the new head coach was just the tip of the iceberg, as the organization has been working hard to surround Maye with elite talent that can help in his growth. From his weapons, the offensive line, or even the defense, the front office has prioritized surrounding him with the right pieces. A key area of focus in that regard was the surrounding playmakers, as they added both Mack Hollins and Stefon Diggs to boost their wide receiver group. However, the work is far from over, as one analyst believes the franchise could seek to draft another wide receiver in the 2026 NFL Draft. Last year, New England had one of the worst receiving corps in the entire league, with no individual player tallying more than 625 yards.
As a result, the offense ranked 26th on PFSN’s Offense+ metric. This offseason, they’ve been hard at work to improve that core, adding Hollins and Diggs as weapons for the young quarterback. Add in the improvements to the offensive line, and the foundation is there for Maye to have a much-improved sophomore campaign. However, Brentley Weissman of PFSN, in his latest mock draft, believed the Patriots should prioritize adding a young weapon who can develop alongside Maye for the foreseeable future. His best candidate for that role is Jordyn Tyson from Arizona State. So far this offseason, the New England Patriots have been hard at work to put surprise Pro Bowler Drake Maye in the best possible situation for the 2025 NFL season.
The first major move was bringing in Mike Vrabel as the new head coach before a newsworthy offseason followed. However, the work isn’t done yet. For the team to truly ascend to that next level, they need a home run in the NFL Draft. And one analyst believes they’ll start off strong in the first round itself by taking care of their biggest position of need early. New England, meet your newest superstar. On PFSN’s free agency grades for the offseason, New England was among the highest-graded teams, receiving an A-.
Their acquisition of defensive talent was truly exceptional, but now is the time to bring in weapons for Maye. The latest mock draft from PFSN projects them to do just that. While crediting the Patriots for their work in free agency, it also acknowledged the need for a wide receiver to be added to the current group. Ben Rolfe wrote, “The New England Patriots have had a fantastic offseason, but they still have a few needs to fill. One of those is at wide receiver, though they also have questionable depth at cornerback.”
