Mvp Chants Rain Down For Drake Maye After Another Strong Msn
The Patriots are 9-2, holding the best record in the NFL after Thursday night's 27-14 victory over the AFC East division rival Jets. The developmental leap of second-year quarterback Drake Maye bears much of the credit for New England's success this season. He was phenomenal again on Thursday, completing 25 of his 34 passing attempts for 281 yards and a touchdown in the win. Much like he last Sunday in Tampa from a Patriots-heavy road crowd, Maye received "MVP" chants as he exited his home field in Foxborough on Thursday night. On Sunday, Maye deflected, saying the MVP chants may have been for Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield. Thursday night, Maye deflected his success again and complimented rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson in the process.
"Those may have been for TreVeyon tonight. I mean, he scored three touchdowns. Our fans have been great with me since I got here...just appreciate them for embracing me. I'm just trying to embrace this city and give these fans, this team, myself...just leave it all out there and give it everything I got." #Patriots QB Drake Maye on receiving MVP chants:“Those may have been for TreVeyon tonight. Maye, however, did his best to deflect attention during his postgame interview with CBS’ Tracy Wolfson. “They may be for (Baker Mayfield). Baker played his butt off.
Big fan of Baker’s game, and they’re a good football team,” Maye told CBS’ Tracy Wolfson. “We travel well. That’s the Patriots. That’s us, we’re going to travel every week.” Mayfield was tremendous, finishing with better numbers across the board. Maye was only one rough throw from matching those numbers, however.
And as the old saying goes, to the victor go the spoils — which is something that has been reflected in betting lines. Maye is the current favorite (+275) to be named NFL MVP at DraftKings Sportsbook. Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (+300), Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (+500) and Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (+650) are the three closest players behind — though we aren’t far away... New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye ignored the "MVP" chants from Foxborough fans, which rained down during Sunday's 32-13 blowout win over the Cleveland Browns. "No, I didn't hear it. The guys were making fun of me about my slide back in the huddle on the long run, so I didn't hear it," Maye said of the cheers, via Boston.com.
"But the fans have been awesome all season. It's been really cool really to see the difference from last year to this year. Man, it's been a journey. "They've been through it, and the fans have been through it the last couple years. So it's just credit to them. ...
I know the fans have been awesome. Like I said, I think they're the best fans in the league, and they continue to show out every week." Maye's play in recent weeks has thrust his name into the MVP conversation. There were wobbly moments against the NFL's No. 3 scoring defense, with Myles Garrett earning five sacks, but the second-year signal-caller was flawless in the second half as the Pats ran away from a good Browns defense. In the second half, Maye completed all eight of his passes for 114 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions for a 158.3 passer rating.
For the game, he went 18 of 24 (75%) for 282 yards, three TDs and an INT for a 135.8 passer rating. The New England Patriots remain atop the AFC East on Monday morning after demolishing the Cleveland Browns at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro on Sunday. The team racked up 32 points against the best defense in the NFL, with star quarterback Drake Maye throwing for 282 yards and three touchdowns. He added 50 yards with his legs. Maye set a Patriots record once held by Tom Brady last week. This weekend, Browns defensive juggernaut Myles Garrett set a franchise record, sacking Maye five times.
But it wasn’t enough to stop the dominant New England offense. It was a slow start for the Patriots, but they really got things going in the third quarter when Maye threw a trio of touchdown passes to Hunter Henry, Stefon Diggs, and Kayshon Boutte. The defense also stepped up big, intercepting Cleveland’s quarterback twice, including an incredible one-handed grab by safety Jaylinn Hawkins. And it’s that all-around team effort head coach Mike Vrabel is proud to see.
