mlb reveals 2025 award finalists with one major name missing

The finalists are in for the 2025 BBWAA Awards, and Major League Baseball's biggest names-and some fast-rising newcomers-are officially in the spotlight. From MVPs to Rookies of the Year, the stage is set for a week of honors that shine a light on the best performances from this past season. Here’s how it’ll go down: The Baseball Writers’ Association of America will roll out the winners across four consecutive days next week, starting Monday, November 10. The schedule kicks off with the Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year Awards, followed by Manager of the Year on Tuesday, Cy Young on Wednesday, and finally, the MVPs will be crowned Thursday, November... Each announcement will air live on MLB Network at 4 p.m. PT.

The voting process? It’s a thorough one. Two writers from each MLB city-handpicked by their local chapter chair and approved by the national secretary-treasurer-submit their ballots before the postseason begins. That means these awards reflect regular-season excellence, not October heroics. Despite the Toronto Blue Jays' best efforts, the Los Angeles Dodgers are champions of baseball again. Could they add another major award before the offseason gets in full swing?

Shohei Ohtani is aiming for his fourth MVP award, which would make him only the second player to reach the mark and the first to win multiple MVPs in both leagues. On the AL side, the MVP race between Aaron Judge and Cal Raleigh came down to the bitter end. Was Raleigh’s 60-home-run campaign enough to push him ahead, or will the New York Yankees’ two-time MVP become a three-time MVP? Whether or not Judge goes back-to-back, this award season is likely to have plenty of similarities to 2024. Many of the awards have been announced, with the AL and NL MVPs to be named Thursday night at 7 p.m., on MLB Network. The Los Angeles Dodgers emerged victorious as World Series champions, edging out the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 in 11 innings on November 1, 2025, at Rogers Centre.

It's their third title in six years, bringing the team's total to nine. Will Smith smashed the first-ever extra-innings home run in a must-win World Series game, propelling Los Angeles to victory. Yoshinobu Yamamoto was named World Series MVP, pitching 2⅔ innings on just one day of rest. The Dodgers' postseason journey included triumphs over the Cincinnati Reds in the wild-card series, the Philadelphia Phillies in the division series, and a sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series. This is the first time in 25 years a team successfully defended its title since the Yankees from 1998 to 2000. Veteran pitcher Clayton Kershaw, who is retiring, was instrumental in their success.

He squashed a bases-loaded threat in Game 3, which lasted a grueling 18 innings, clinching their victory. Max Muncy shared how proud he is of the team’s attitude. "Honestly, the thing I'm most proud of is when you put on the Dodger uniform, you expect to hoist up that trophy. It's all about the team,” he said. The 2025 MLB season concluded earlier this month with the Dodgers defeating the Blue Jays in the World Series. In recognition of the best players from this past season, MLB is announcing the winners of the league’s top honors and awards this week, before the offseason kicks into high gear.

The MVP, Cy Young, Rookie of the Year and Manager of the Year awards are voted on by the Baseball Writers Association of America. A combination of fans, media members, executives, managers, and/or players vote on the other awards. For a closer look at the voting process, click here. Major League Baseball, in conjunction with the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA), has announced the finalists for the 2025 major awards: Most Valuable Player, Cy Young, Rookie of the Year and Manager of... As a reminder, the voting was completed before the playoffs even started. In fact, ballots were due before the first pitch of the playoffs. That means these are regular-season awards. Further, there's no voting after finalists are announced or anything like that. The word, "finalists," is kind of misleading actually.

The ballots have already been tabulated and the league office is simply revealing the top three vote-getters for each award to create a buzz before the winners are announced. The announcement schedule is as follows. Monday, Nov. 10: Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year Awards Tuesday, Nov. 11: Manager of the Year Awards

The Baseball Writers’ Association of America revealed the finalists for Major League Baseball’s four major end-of-season awards on Monday, setting the stage for a celebration of 2025’s most outstanding performers. The finalists include Yankees star Aaron Judge, Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh after his landmark 60-homer season, and defending Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal seeking back-to-back honors. Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani leads the field as the favorite to win his third consecutive MVP Award and his fourth in five years. Ohtani returned to his two-way role with remarkable success, batting .282 with 55 home runs, 20 stolen bases, and 102 RBIs while posting an NL-best 1.014 OPS. On the mound, he recorded a 2.87 ERA with 62 strikeouts in 47 innings over 14 starts. Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber joins the MVP finalists for the first time after winning his second NL home run crown with a career-high 56 long balls and leading the Majors with 132 RBIs.

Mets right fielder Juan Soto rounds out the NL finalists with a career-high 43 home runs, an NL-leading 38 stolen bases, and a Major League-best 127 walks. There was little to no surprise as MLB announced the top three vote-getters for the major end-of-season awards. Candidates for MVP, Cy Young Award, Rookie of the Year and Manager of the Year were unveiled following voting by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Winners of the awards will be announced in the week of Nov. 10, with the Rookie of the Year on Monday, Manager of the Year on Tuesday, Cy Young Award on Wednesday and MVP on Thursday. Reminder that all voting was done after the regular season and before the postseason began.

Awards contenders are listed alphabetically. In what is surely to be the most hotly debated award, the AL MVP race is between New York Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge, Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh and Cleveland Guardians third baseman... Judge has won this award two of the last three years and was a unanimous pick last season, but faces stiff competition from Raleigh, who had a 60-homer season. A rather young group in terms of experience, the AL Cy Young Award will go to Houston Astros right-hander Hunter Brown, Boston Red Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet or Detroit Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal. Skubal won this unanimously last year and is the favorite to repeat after improving all of his primary numbers. Crochet could make it close with his MLB-leading 255 strikeouts to go along with 18 wins.

None of these three has more than 137 career appearances.
