It's another section of of the offseason where college football rosters are reshaped. Players transfer to other institutions to follow their coach, seek a fresh start, move closer to home, get more playing time or, more often, more money. Gone are the days, in large part, of players staying somewhere for four or five years while working their way up the depth chart. Michigan football does a better job of retaining its players than most, but there will still be transfers. Here are the Wolverines who are set to enter the transfer portal, as well as those who've pledged to join new coach Kyle Whittingham as part of his first squad in Ann Arbor. This will be updated as players announce their intention to enter the portal.

The redshirt sophomore had 48 tackles, including 17½ for loss (tied for best in the country), 11½ sacks, two forced fumbles and a pass breakup in 11 games before a season-ending injry. Daley has already posted on social media that he'll be back from the injury in six months – in plenty of time for the start of the 2026 season. The 247Sports Transfer Portal includes players who have either announced their intent to enter or have officially entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. Under the college transfer policy, when a student-athlete informs a school that he wishes to transfer, that institution has two business days to enter that athlete's name into a national transfer portal. It’s a particularly hectic time for any program, but with Michigan in the middle of a coaching regime change, the Wolverines are quite involved in this cycle. A lot of energy and resources will undoubtedly be spent on trying to retain players on the current roster, freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood and freshman wide receiver Andrew Marsh at the top of that... But Michigan will also have a chance to be a player on bigger names as well. Here’s a comprehensive list of Michigan’s activity in the transfer portal… Warren took the bulk of the reps at quarterback in 2024, throwing 1,199 yards for seven touchdowns and nine interceptions. The college football transfer portal has officially opened. It will be open from January 2-16.

For Michigan football and new head coach Kyle Whittingham, it's a critical moment. Whittingham said in his opening press conference that player retention was the most important item on his agenda. He's got most of his coaching staff hired, outside of hiring a linebackers and secondary coach. The biggest name to know is Bryce Underwood. All eyes will be on the No. 1 overall quarterback from the 2025 class, who started all 13 games for Michigan football this past season.

Andrew Marsh is another name to watch. Like there is every offseason, there will be additions and subtractions. We'll keep track of them all on the Michigan football transfer portal tracker, which will be updated in real time as things happen. It's still early in the process of teams identifying targets but three Utah players who started last season have entered the transfer portal since Whittingham was hired. The transfer portal opened on Friday Jan. 2 and will run through Jan.
