Mamdani Rallies Nyc Voters With Support From Bernie Sanders And Aoc
NEW YORK (AP) — New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani rallied supporters Sunday with heavyweight support from U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as the race enters its final stretch, telling a raucous crowd that his campaign is a "movement of the masses." Mamdani, the Democratic nominee, took the stage at a small stadium in Queens where he and two of the nation's leading progressives pitched his candidacy as a force to take on billionaires and "oligarchs"... "When you insist on building a coalition with room for every New Yorker, that is exactly what you create: a tremendous force," Mamdani said.
"This, my friends, was your movement, and it always will be." As the crowd chanted his name, Mamdani reiterated plans to hire thousands of new teachers, renegotiate city contracts, freeze rent increases for the city's 1 million rent-regulated apartments, build more affordable housing and provide... With early voting underway ahead of Election Day on Nov. 4, Mamdani, a democratic socialist, is in an increasingly caustic race with former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an independent candidate after losing the Democratic primary to Mamdani, and Republican Curtis Sliwa, who campaigned Sunday in Queens. As New Yorkers cast their ballots in the city’s mayoral race, Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani sent a message to voters Sunday, asking them not to choose “settling for the lesser of two evils,”... “While Donald Trump’s donor billionaires think they have the money to buy this election, we have a movement of the masses,” Mamdani said to a roaring crowd. Mamdani took the stage at a raucous rally alongside Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, where thousands of people chanted Mamdani’s name and repeated in unison his signature proposals to freeze the rent, make buses fast and free, and provide universal... The rally was part closing argument, part rallying of the troops ahead of the November 4 election, with Mamdani casting the race as a choice between democracy and oligarchy and Sanders and Ocasio Cortez...
“I’m talking to you, Donald Trump,” Ocasio-Cortez declared, saying that “in nine short days we will work our hearts out to elect Zohran Kwame Mamdani as the next mayor of the great city of... Fox News Digital spoke to New Yorkers about why they are voting for Zohran Mamdani, why they identify as democratic socialists and about the future of the Democratic Party. Several New York City voters, who spoke to Fox News Digital at a Sunday rally, said New York City Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., are the future of the Democratic Party. Thousands of voters gathered at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens on Sunday for the "New York is Not for Sale" rally in support of Mamdani, the 34-year-old self-identified democratic socialist and frontrunner in the... Flanked by Ocasio-Cortez and Sen.
Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., the trio of democratic socialists rallied the large crowd on the first weekend of early voting in the city. "There's going to be no party unless they are the future," Nuala O'Doherty-Naranjo, an immigration lawyer who lives in Ocasio-Cortez's district in Jackson Heights, Queens, told Fox News Digital. When asked if she identifies as a democratic socialist, like Mamdani, Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders, O'Doherty-Naranjo said, "DSA all the way." Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral campaign held a huge Get Out the Vote rally in front of a packed and energized Forest Hills Stadium on Sunday evening, joining co-headliners and prominent democratic socialists U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders and U.S.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to call for a final push from volunteers ahead of election day on Nov. 4. Mamdani, the frontrunner in the ongoing mayoral election, hoisted the arms of Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders aloft at the end of the three-hour rally before 13,000 highly energized voters at the iconic Queens venue. The event reiterated three central platforms of his campaign: free buses, universal childcare, and a rent freeze for the roughly one million rent-stabilized units in the city. A long list of labor, political, and religious leaders spoke at the rally, including Gov.
Kathy Hochul, a more moderate Democrat who got an earful from a crowd that chanted “tax the rich” while she addressed them. Mamdani has sought a tax increase on the wealthiest New Yorkers and corporations to fund much of his economic agenda. The rally was by far the biggest of Mamdani’s political career to date, and he sought to emphasize that the race for mayor is far from over. Most polls have him ahead of independent former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa in the three-way contest — but in most surveys, Mamdani does not have majority support. The Democratic nominee and Queens Assembly member pleaded with his supporters to give him “more” before Election Day on Nov.
4. Mamdani will become New York City's first Muslim mayor. Spanberger will become Virginia's first female governor. California Gov. Gavin Newsom framed the result of today's ballot measure on redistricting as a rebuke of Trump. "In a 90-day sprint, people from all over the United States of America contributed their voices and their support for this initiative," the Democratic governor told reporters.
"We stood tall and we stood firm in response to Donald Trump's recklessness, and tonight, after poking the bear, this bear roared with an unprecedented turnout in a special election with an extraordinary result." Newsom blamed Trump for starting a multi-state fight on redistricting after the president urged Texas GOP leaders over the summer to redraw congressional lines in an attempt to gain five more House seats for... "Donald Trump's efforts to rig the midterm election continue to this day," Newsom said.
