Americans are headed to the polls for the first time since re-electing President Trump a year ago, and there are some high-stakes races from sea to shining sea. TRENTON — The polls have closed. New Jersey voters cast ballots today in one of the nation's only two gubernatorial races this year. The expected-to-close contest between Democrat Mikie Sherrill and Republican Jack Ciattarelli could signal whether the Garden State is shifting politically after nearly a decade of Democratic control. The Associated Press called the race for Sherrill just before 9:30, when she was leading with 58% of the vote. Gov. JB Pritzker suggested Wednesday that Illinois Democrats could revisit redistricting if neighboring Indiana moves to redraw its congressional boundaries, according to the Chicago Tribune. “We’re watching what Indiana does,” Pritzker told reporters. “Donald Trump is trying to cheat, so we may have to react to that.” Speaking after an Election Night of Democrat wins in blue states and cities, Pritzker said the results showed voters rejecting Trump’s “authoritarian” leadership and economic policies.
