La Riot Police Shoot Protester In The Head With Rubber Bullet
A video from the Los Angeles protests shows a woman bleeding from the head as people around her accuse riot police of wounding her with a rubber bullet. The footage was shared on social media, where it was viewed by almost 98,000 people and reposted by more than 1,200 on X (formerly Twitter). Police are seen bandaging the patient's head as protesters and police argue about the possibility of getting her an ambulance, with both sides blaming each other for the unfolding situation. It was not immediately clear when or where the footage was filmed. Newsweek reached out to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) via email for comment. The video dropped amid heightened tensions in Los Angeles following protests and riots against a wave of immigration raids by U.S.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The raids are part of a coordinated response across the U.S. after President Donald Trump vowed to instigate mass deportations of undocumented migrants. The rubber bullet left a huge red mark on his forehead. “I’m just standing there working, and then all of a sudden … I mean, I was sort of semi-conscious of the fact that the guy was aiming at me or aiming in my direction,... Next thing I knew, I was just flattened, it struck me on the head and I was down,” he was quoted saying to CNN on Tuesday. The rubber bullet left a huge red mark on his forehead that was still visible on Tuesday. He went to the hospital afterward but wasn’t otherwise injured, he said. “The initial response from law enforcement, you know, there was no standoff. It was almost like straight into it with the tools at their disposal to hold people back,” he said.
“And there are obviously people in that crowd angry, lashing out at police, and objects being thrown and stuff like that," he added.
