Multiple elections occurred on November 4, 2025, with primary elections held on August 5, 2025. 9 of the 147 state legislative seats were up for special election in 2025 as a result of deaths and resignations among members, 5 in the Senate and 4 in the House. All nine elections are in the Seattle area. Two special elections to the Washington Court of Appeals took place in November 2025. No more than two candidates filed in either race, so primary elections were cancelled. Municipal elections in Washington are nonpartisan, while county elections are partisan.

4, with ballots with ballots featuring a wide range of local and statewide races that could reshape leadership in several key cities and jurisdictions. From a high-profile statewide ballot measure to city council races in Seattle and mayoral contests in multiple Puget Sound cities and counties, here’s a look at what’s on the ballot: At the top of the ballot is State Measure No. 8201, a significant proposal that could have broad implications for state law and policy. It proposes allowing the state to invest the Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS) Trust Fund, or WA Cares Fund, in stocks and other equities. The WA Cares Fund was established in 2019 to provide long-term care benefits for eligible Washington workers.
It is funded by a payroll tax on employees. If passed, Measure 8201 would lift the state constitutional restriction that currently limits the WA Cares Fund to fixed-income securities like government bonds. This would allow the non-partisan Washington State Investment Board to invest the fund more broadly for higher returns. The November Election is around the corner, and KIRO 7 wants to make sure you’re prepared. October 17 – This is the start of the voting period and the deadline for counties to mail out ballots to registered voters. October 27 – This is the last day for online and mailed registrations or updates to be received.
October 28 – The U.S. Postal Service recommends mailing your filled-out ballot back at least one week before Election Day. As of October 1, the Washington Secretary of State says there are 5,082,306 active voters in Washington. Washington state voters have cast their ballots in the November 2025 general election. The voting deadline has passed, as ballot drop boxes closed at 8 p.m. on Nov.
4. Mailed ballots must have been mailed and postmarked by Tuesday to count. Washington is a vote-by-mail state, and ballots were sent to 5 million registered voters across 39 counties. Results often take days to count as the ballots arrive in election offices in counties throughout the week. Under the state’s primary system, the top two vote-getters advance to the general election, regardless of party. That means races could have two Democrats or two Republicans facing each other in the general election.
