During the 2021-2022 academic year, The University of Texas at Austin handed out 147 bachelor's degrees in journalism. This is a decrease of 11% over the previous year when 166 degrees were handed out. In 2022, 10 students received their master’s degree in journalism from UT Austin. This makes it the #35 most popular school for journalism master’s degree candidates in the country. Multiple areas of emphasis are available in both degrees. The MA degree includes a professional track and a research and theory track. The Bachelor of Journalism degree prepares students to work in traditional and new media roles. Students start with foundational classes that include media law, print journalism and digital content creation. Later, students have the opportunity to pursue a degree path that fits their specific interests in writing, broadcasting, social media, photography, audio storytelling and more. The Bachelor of Journalism degree comprises 120 credit hours.
