That would have graded an F except for their one shining moment, drafting Drake Maye with the third overall pick. Maye was mishandled entirely by whoever was involved in his use during his rookie season.
Getting no first team reps at all in the entire preseason and almost none until week four or five of the regular season, trashed 2024 before it even began. It was a case study in player mismanagement. Regardless, Maye still overcame all the odds and excelled once he was inserted into the starting lineup, even without any preparation. He had a great rookie season, a Pro Bowl nod, and presented such a shining picture that Mike Vrabel chose to hitch his horse to the Patriots' wagon when he could have had his... And now Maye is getting noticed. In an article by Nick Goss of NBC Sports Boston, he cited Buffalo Bills' great quarterback Josh Allen's admiration for young Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, while discussing how the addition of Stefon Diggs can...
"I think he brings a lot of security for Drake. Obviously, having the knowledge of playing in the league for so long, he has that veteran mentorship that he can give to Drake. I think Drake is super talented; he’s one of my favorite young quarterbacks in the league."I've spent some time around him, and he's got his head on his shoulders the right way. He just does things the right way. I think that he exemplifies football. He'll take it and run, he'll throw it, and to have someone like Stefon is going to help him out a lot."
Updated on: December 19, 2024 / 9:49 AM EST / CBS Boston FOXBORO -- While Sunday's Patriots-Bills showdown will likely be a one-sided affair, there is an added level of excitement with quarterbacks Josh Allen and Drake Maye set to go head-to-head for the first time. Allen is one an absolute tear this season and is likely on his way to his first NFL MVP. Maye has been impressive in his rookie season for the Patriots, and hopes to reach Allen's level in the near future. So there is a lot of juice surrounding their first head-to-head matchup, which is doing a lot of heavy lifting to make a game against an 11-3 team and a 3-11 team worth watching. While he's not playing directly against Allen on Sunday, Maye is going to have quite the task at hand as he tries to keep up with the talented QB and the a Buffalo offense...
The New England Patriots did not get off to the start they were hoping to in the 2025 campaign, as they suffered a 20-13 loss at the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders in... In the first game of his sophomore season, quarterback Drake Maye turned in an uneven performance that featured some highs and lows. Maye completed 30 of his 46 pass attempts for 287 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 11 yards on four carries. He did throw a costly interception in the third quarter that turned the tide of the game, and he fumbled the ball too, although it ended up being recovered by rookie left tackle Will... Considering how impressive he was during his time on the field as a rookie, the Pats and their fans were likely hoping for more from Maye against a weak Raiders defense. It is only Week 1, and growing pains should be expected for New England’s offense.
One guy who knows that quite well is Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. While he’s the reigning NFL MVP, it took Allen a while to find his footing in the NFL. With that in mind, he’d be the perfect mentor for Maye, and according to the Bills’ superstar, it sounds like that’s a role he took on over the offseason. “I’ve formed a good relationship with Drake Maye,” Allen said on the “Like a Farmer Podcast.” “Got to spend some time with him this offseason. He’s an unbelievable guy. He’s still in the kid tier for me, he’s younger than I am … He’s a bright kid.
He can spin the heck out of the ball. He moves well.” To stream WeAreIowa on your phone, you need the WeAreIowa app. Example video title will go here for this video Example video title will go here for this video Time crunch?Get all your NFL news here in just 60 words
Drake Maye had an impressive rookie season for the New England Patriots. The number three overall pick started only 12 games, yet he tossed a respectable 15 touchdowns while throwing for over 2,000 yards. He also added another 2 touchdowns and 421 yards on the ground, showcasing his dual-threat ability and stout rushing skills for his position. Naturally, watching the way that Maye ran, passed, and made decisions, comparisons came hard and fast. And the biggest name fans linked him to was the MVP Josh Allen. Which was a lofty comparison, but not a crazy one.
However, when Maye was recently asked about the comparisons to Allen, he shut them down quickly. “I think the comparisons… [Well,] I got a lot of work to do. With even being in the same stratosphere or atmosphere as Josh,” Maye started on Bussin’ With the Boys.
