In fact, some believe the Patriots quarterback is the MVP frontrunner through the first half of the 2025 NFL season. Of course, that depends on who you ask. Executives of teams throughout the league aren’t as bullish on the idea of Maye being the NFL’s first-half MVP.

Doubt Mike Vrabel's bunch at your own risk because they are a wagon. The biggest reason the Patriots are once again a superpower is the play of second-year quarterback Drake Maye.

The former No. 3 overall draft pick has blossomed into a veritable superstar this season. At the time of this writing, Maye is on pace for over 4,300 yards passing, 32 touchdown passes, and just nine interceptions. Oh, and he's also completing nearly 72 percent of his passes with a robust 8.9 yards per pass attempt while sitting No. 2 overall amongst all quarterbacks in composite Expected Points Added (EPA) and Completion Percentage Over Expected (CPOE). If I didn't know any better, that sounds like an NFL MVP-caliber season for Maye.

Well, that's because it is. The question now is whether Maye really does have a legit shot of winning MVP in just his second season. Outside of Maye's stellar play, the best way to assess this is to see his current competition. Let's take a quick look at the tale of the tape, at the time of publishing: If he wasn’t already being taken seriously as an NFL MVP candidate heading into Week 8 against the Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye certainly is now. Following another electric performance on Sunday during the Patriots’ fifth straight win, Maye leads the league in passer rating and completion percentage and is ranked inside the top five in adjusted QBR (fourth), passing...

ESPN national NFL analyst Ben Solak wrote on Tuesday that Maye is the NFL MVP for the first half of the season. “It is critical to understand just how much Maye is carrying here. Detractors highlight a soft schedule of opposing defenses. But in obvious pass situations, there is no quarterback playing better. On plays with an NFL Next Gen Stats pre-snap pass probability of 75% or higher — plays in which the defense is expecting pass, and dialing up blitzes and coverage rotations and other shenanigans... “For now, Maye might fit the traditional argument.

He is among the league leaders in dropback EPA and is piloting the 6-2 Patriots in the race for the No. 1 seed. But Maye will be very high on my (fictional) MVP ballot when the season ends not for those reasons — but rather for how much he’s doing with how little he has at his... Other MVP frontrunners entering Week 9 include quarterbacks Dak Prescott, Daniel Jones, Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. FOXBORO, Mass. — Early in the third quarter, after the latest of Drake Maye’s wild plays that leave one wondering how in the world he pulls them off, the New England Patriots huddled, the ball 11... Maye tried to yell out the play call from Josh McDaniels, but his teammates in the huddle couldn’t hear him. Offensive linemen had to wave their arms, begging the home crowd to quiet down because the “M-V-P” chants were too loud. Maye, fittingly, then promptly threw a beauty of a touchdown to the back of the end zone on a night when, even if his numbers weren’t off the charts, he showed a national audience... Maye has had better games and played in bigger games, but few have done more to boost and validate his MVP stock, given how he shined during the prime-time showcase of a 27-14 “Thursday...

Phil Perry, Tom Curran and Ted Johnson join Michael Holley to offer instant reaction and analysis following the Patriots’ 25-19 win over the Saints. Drake Maye is the biggest reason the Patriots already have tied their win total from each of the past two seasons. The second-year quarterback led the Patriots to a blowout victory over the Panthers in Week 4, went toe-to-toe and defeated Josh Allen and the Bills in Week 5 and followed it up with a... New Orleans, while not the same caliber of team as Buffalo, presented a tough challenge and it was Maye who propelled New England to a 25-19 victory on Sunday. It's the first time the Patriots have won three consecutive games since the 2022 campaign.
