This site is meant to be a research guide for people who are researching history topics. It is important to: 1) Verify you understand your assignment. Can you use books and articles? Do you need to locate primary sources? Does your information have to be from a certain time period?

2) Can you use reference materials? These often give a great brief overview of your topic. You can see some suggestions in the Encyclopedias & Dictionaries tab above. 3) Do you need resources specific to a certain class? Your history classes come with a prefix (i.e. HIEU, HIUS, etc.).

These titles are helpful Primers in the task of doing history for the church. What does it mean for a Christian, or a person of Faith, to 'do history'? Is historical research at odds with one's faith commitments, or does the believing scholar need to deny their faith in order to be a legitimate historian?

The titles displayed below can assist the Christian Historian with understanding the relationship of faith and scholarship in the task of history. They also emphasize the need for understanding how historical investigation works, and how it helps the Church. The following resources all address the role of the professional historian, various debates over historiography, and ideal standards of academic scholarship in the field of history.
