Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel address the media on Thursday, November 13, 2025. Mike Vrabel got his first win as Patriots coach, but it didn’t come easy.

New England emerged from Hard Rock Stadium with a 33-27 win over the Dolphins. It was the Patriots’ first win in Miami since 2019 when they beat their rival, 43-0. “I felt like we were willing to get into a street fight,” Vrabel said after the game. “We had a little lull and we didn’t pack it up and quit." There were several lead changes, back-to-back kick return touchdowns, two missed PATs from New England and several penalties taken by the Patriots. But they found a way to win between a big game from Rhamondre Stevenson and a game-sealing sack from Milton Williams.

"I’m just excited for these guys," Vrabel said. “I’m really excited that they could fight and compete.” .photo_caption_text { font-family: "Gill Sans", "Gill Sans MT", "Myriad Pro", "DejaVu Sans Condensed", Helvetica, Arial, "sans-serif"; font-size:10px; font-weight:bold; color:#414141; text-align: right; line-height:16px; display:block; margin-bottom:2px; width:100%; } /* PREVENT LAYOUT SHIFT FOR HERO IMAGE */... New England defeated Miami 33-27 in Week 2. As Drake Maye took a knee to close out a 33-27 win over the Miami Dolphins, the quarterback made sure to hand the football to the New England Patriots’ equipment manager. That was so the ball could be delivered to Mike Vrabel after his first win as the Patriots head coach, which it was by owner Robert Kraft in the locker room.

“I took that football, the one I kneed there, and gave it right to Stick, our equipment guy, and let coach get that ball,” Maye said. “That means a lot and I think it meant a lot to him. It took everybody, but obviously he’s leading the charge and that meant something special.” After not winning in Miami since 2019, New England knew what challenges awaited for them despite the Dolphins trending downwards to start the season. Mike Vrabel’s game ball, and message for the players: Following his first win as Patriots head coach, Mike Vrabel wasn’t able to escape the spotlight cast on him by team owner Robert Kraft.

Bounding into the away locker room after the 33-27 victory in Miami, Vrabel tried to proceed directly into his postgame remarks. Shortly after getting the players’ attention, however, he was interrupted by probably the only person in the room who could get away with that: Kraft. “I’m going to call an audible,” Kraft interjected. “This was awesome. Thank you all.” Postgame Press Conference Sunday, September 14, 2025

Looks like you're trying to keep up with Antonio along the sideline. What were you doing? MIKE VRABEL: Again, I told you, we had to have those guys be a weapon for us. Too many times we had penalties, and we didn't. Rhamondre answered and then Gibby answered. Again, we had a similar situation in practice where we had a couple bad plays, and I'm like we've got to just keep — we're going on.

We've got to snap the next play. Then somebody hit a play, a back hit a play. I'm like, you see, it just takes one play. That's exactly what Rhamondre did to get us out of that lull. We unfortunately just gave up the punt return but then answered, and Gibby answered and that unit answered. Again, I felt like we were willing to get into a street fight.

We had a little lull, and we didn't pack it up and quit. To follow up on that, was that involuntary by you, running along? Just talk about that, where you were when all that was happening? MIKE VRABEL: I just was watching about the 50. I'm just excited for these guys. I'm really excited that they could fight and compete, come on the road, be in a game, get off to a good start, not be front runners — everything that we talked about.

We tried to get the drive stops sometimes. We ended the drives with scores, with touchdowns, much better in the red zone. Offensively the only thing that stopped us today was us, so there was a lot of really good keys there. Again, the penalties on special teams, there's lots to coach from, but it's going to be easier to coach from a win. We'll be able to coach them hard and make sure we're trying to fix the things that hurt us. We got off to a good start.

Again, we knew that a lot of that was to make sure we made them earn it, and we didn't get the drive stop on a couple of those X plays and they scored...
