Grading All 32 First Round Rookies After Week 10 Pff
Many of the NFL’s first-round rookies are contributing to playoff contenders as we head into the latter stretch of the 2025 season. As always, we’ll continue to track their performance, PFF grades and principal opponents as we barrel toward the end of the regular season. Hunter was inactive this week due to a knee injury. Had the Atlanta Falcons played better earlier in the season, fans would probably be more forgiving of the team's back-to-back losses to the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts. After losing to the Patriots by one point on the road, the Falcons were defeated by the Colts in overtime on Sunday to fall to 3-6 for the year. The Falcons defense came up with seven total sacks in Week 10, but they couldn't slow down the Colts ground game.
Nonetheless, Atlanta has to be happy with how its rookies have performed as of late. First-round picks Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr. combined to record four total sacks and three forced fumbles over the last two weeks. Walker had arguably the best game of his career on Sunday.. While the rest of the defense struggled against running back Jonathan Taylor, Walker's versatility was on full display versus the Colts. Pro Football Focus graded all 32 first-round picks after Week 10, and the former Georgia standout received his highest grade of the season.
Walker earned the highest PFF overall grade of his young career after making multiple splash plays against the Colts. He tallied three pressures, including a strip sack that Daniel Jones was lucky enough to recover. He was also one of the few Falcons who played well in run defense. Walker led the team with an 81.4 PFF run-defense grade. If the latter is sustained in future weeks, then any doubts about his ability to play as a full-time edge defender will be quelled. -- Dalton Wasserman, PFF

The seventh-ranked prospect on the PFF Big Board will instantly upgrade an Arizona defense that ranked 27th in EPA allowed per rush in 2024. Johnson — A tough injury cut Johnson’s 2024 campaign short and sent his draft stock tumbling. However, he did prove his level of talent across his tenure at Michigan. His 57.2 passer rating allowed into his coverage across the last three seasons charted in the 94th percentile. Pairing Johnson with breakout cornerback Garrett Williams will upgrade a coverage unit that allowed the sixth-highest EPA per dropback. It’s unfair to fully blame Ward for the Tennessee Titans’ struggles. But like, Caleb Williams and Robert Griffin III had excellent rookie years on horrible teams with textbook coaching malpractice. Cam Ward’s ability to win from inside the pocket was a big driver in his success this past season. Week 4 is in the books, and several of the NFL’s first-round rookies made their impact felt.
We're once again breaking down their PFF grades, performances and principal opponents as they progress through their debut seasons. Ward battled through another tough outing as Tennessee’s pass protection failed to give him many chances for success. He was pressured on 51.6% of his dropbacks against Houston despite being blitzed less than 20% of the time. Ward’s lone big-time throw came on an early play when he rolled to his right and fired a deep pass to Elic Ayomanor, who was all the way back on the left hash. The Titans need to find a way to better protect Ward if he's going to consistently produce. Game grades, positional splits and high-level metrics for Ward's 2025 season.
Hunter’s snap count leaned more toward the offensive side of the ball this week, as he played just nine snaps at cornerback. His best play as a wide receiver was an acrobatic catch down the middle of the field that resulted in a 28-yard gain. Unfortunately, he earned just a 53.8 PFF receiving grade because he fumbled after one of his other receptions. Hunter made two tackles while playing cornerback and allowed one catch totaling seven yards. Mac Jones extended his lead over the rest of the rookie passers this week with his best game to date. The Alabama product was outstanding against the Cleveland Browns and produced one of the top overall PFF grades of the week.
DeVonta Smith took his game to a new level, beating up on former Crimson Tide teammate Patrick Surtain II for some of his best plays. Micah Parsons ensured the Dallas Cowboys still fielded an elite pass rush without their starting defensive end, as he kicked back down to the line of scrimmage and racked up the pressure. But overall, it was a week full of rookie struggles. As usual, Lawrence made good throws against Indianapolis this week, including a nice sideline dime to Jamal Agnew that fell incomplete, but there was also plenty of bad.
He fumbled the ball while trying to escape the pocket into multiple defenders and forced a pass into double coverage on the run, netting out to another overall PFF grade in the 50s —... The situation in Jacksonville isn’t great, but even with that context, you would have expected to see more from Lawrence at this point in the year. January 23, 2025, 12:11pm EST 413 • By Alex Hoegler Now that the NFL regular season is in the books, it’s a good time to see which 2024 first-round draft picks passed or failed their initial tests. So, without further ado, let’s dive into our final grades for all 32 NFL first-round picks of 2024. 2024 was another letdown of a year in Windy City, but there is one positive for Bears fans to take away: This team finally has a franchise quarterback to build around.
Despite being held back by inept coaching all season long, Williams produced a fine statistical season: A 62.5 completion percentage for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns, and only six interceptions. Rookies don't get a second chance to make a first impression in the NFL. Here, we evaluate how every 2024 first-round pick fared in their first season in the league. Stats: 62% completion, 3,451 yards, 20 TDs, 6 INTsBest game: vs. Jaguars (Week 6)Worst game: at Texans (Week 2) Williams' 2024 wasn't great.
He was sacked 68 times - the worst mark in football - and showed a tendency to hold onto the ball too long. It wasn't entirely his fault. The Bears' O-line had a lot of issues, and their bad coaching situation resulted in Matt Eberflus getting fired in November. But Williams ultimately didn't come close to living up to the hype, even if he did display his ability to make off-script plays. Stats: 69% completion, 3,568 yards, 25 TDs, 9 INTs; 6 TD runsBest game: at Bengals (Week 3)Worst game: vs. Steelers (Week 10)
Daniels went 21-for-23 passing against Cincy on his first Monday Night Football to set a rookie single-game record for completion percentage (91.3). He also accounted for three touchdowns with no turnovers that night. You may also remember his Hail Mary TD pass to beat the Bears. Or his five-TD comeback win over the Eagles. Or his touchdown in overtime to walk off the Falcons and send Washington to the playoffs. The Offensive Rookie of the Year favorite had no shortage of remarkable moments and helped the Commanders return to the postseason after they won four games in 2023.
With Week 11 of the fantasy football season nearly done, Chris Rodriguez Jr. and Michael Wilson stand out as top waiver-wire targets. PFF's fantasy football recap focuses on player usage and stats, breaking down all the vital information you need to achieve fantasy success in 2025. D.K. Metcalf is coming off two quiet weeks, but he’s in a good position to rebound against Pittsburgh. Bo Nix, meanwhile, should stay on fantasy benches after a rough Thursday night outing and with a matchup against a Kansas City defense that has been excellent at preventing passing touchdowns.
