One area that has increasingly become an issue is counterfeit parts. This has become such an issue that in 2019 and 2020 the Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA) put on the Symposium on Counterfeit Parts and Materials.

There have also been a number of actions taken within the United States government to combat this. The Defense Logistics Agency has also developed the Qualified Suppliers List for Manufacturers (QSLM) and Qualified Suppliers List for Distributors (QSLD) that pre-qualify manufacturers and/or distributors based on an assessment of the provider's applied... Also, NIST Supply Chain Risk Management Practices for Federal Information Systems and Organizations (SP800-161) and issued guidance on component authenticity (SA-19) and in September 2019 the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Supply Chain Risk... Lastly, occasionally will be situations where individual trackers will be set up for that event. COVID is one such case. GSA has set up a dashboard specifically for that and often private groups like Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, Open Secrets, and others will set up their own systems.

The Federal Acquisition Institute (FAI) is pleased to announce the launch of a new distance learning course: FCN 101 - Contracting Basics. This distance learning course provides Federal civilian agency contract professionals with an overarching understanding of Government contracting and the acquisition environment. It is primarily intended for Federal civilian agency contracting professionals and Contracting Officer Representatives (CORs) new to the contracting environment. FCN 101 is the civilian agency equivalent of DOD's CON 100 and is an acceptable alternative to CON 100 for FAC-C certification purposes. This course takes approximately 15 hours to complete and confers 15 Continuous Learning Points (CLP) upon successful completion.
