Giants Rookie Jaxson Dart To Start At Qb Over Russell Wilson For Week
In a New York minute, Russell Wilson's out and Jaxson Dart's time is now. Dart will start at quarterback in the New York Giants' Week 4 game against the visiting Los Angeles Chargers, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported on Tuesday. Giants coach Brian Daboll confirmed the QB change on Wednesday. "I met both with Russ yesterday and Jaxson privately, and Russ was nothing but a pro, which is what I would expect him to be," Daboll told reporters. "It's my decision. We're going with Jaxson.
We're going to get him ready to play this week and the remainder of the season. He's going to do everything he can. Russ will be the backup." Following a dreadful offensive showing in a 22-9 loss on Sunday night to the Kansas City Chiefs, Wilson is three and out in Gotham. Dart, taken 25th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft after New York traded back into the first round, had an impressive preseason that had many wondering just how long it would be before he... The Giants made the decision this week to bench Russell Wilson to start rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart instead. But it sounds like this decision will carry on longer than just in Week 4. New York coach Brian Daboll confirmed on Wednesday that Dart is the expected starting quarterback for the remainder of the 2025 season. "It's my decision going with Jaxson," Daboll said. "We're going to get him ready to play this week and the remainder of the season. He's going to do everything he can.

By Charlotte Carroll, Dianna Russini and Dan Duggan The New York Giants are making a change at quarterback. With rookie Jaxson Dart in concussion protocol, Jameis Winston will start Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. Winston was elevated ahead of Russell Wilson, interim coach Mike Kafka announced Wednesday. The move comes on the heels of the Giants firing coach Brian Daboll on Monday and naming Kafka their interim head coach. Dart exited the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 24-20 loss to the Bears with a concussion, and was replaced by Wilson.
Wilson went 3-of-7 passing for 45 yards, as the Giants squandered a lead and dropped to 2-8 for the season. The New York Giants made the inevitable decision to start rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. Should we be surprised? No. Is the timing questionable? Yes.
Russell Wilson cemented his status as the Giants’ bridge quarterback when he signed a one-year contract in March. Wilson’s subpar performance through three weeks combined with New York’s 0-3 start expedited the process. Wilson’s 59% completion percentage ranks 27th among quarterbacks with at least 60 dropbacks and his 78.5 passer rating is last among NFC East starting quarterbacks. The 14-year veteran’s mystifying choice to throw the football away on fourth-and-goal in the fourth quarter during the Giants’ 22-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs might have sealed his fate. "We're working through all the personnel decisions," Giants coach Brian Daboll answered when asked if Wilson would remain the starter after the team’s Week 3 defeat. "I'm not saying who's starting or who's not starting.
I'm just saying we're evaluating everything right now." Quarterback Jaxson Dart suffered a concussion during Sunday's 24-20 loss to the Bears at Soldier Field. Russell Wilson made his first appearance since Week 6 and replaced the rookie to start the fourth quarter, with the Giants leading 17-10 at the time. Before the concussion, Dart completed 19 of 29 passes for 242 yards. He also ran six times for 66 yards, scoring both of the Giants' touchdowns on the ground. Dart became the first quarterback in NFL history with a touchdown run in five consecutive games, breaking a tie with Cam Newton (2011).
"Another tough one," coach Brian Daboll said after the game. "So with Dart, as he was going back out on the field, just didn't seem right. We called the trainers over and said let's get him out and make sure he gets looked at. Went in and got looked at and ended up being evaluated for a concussion. Ten-point lead there in the fourth quarter, and give [the Bears] credit. They made a lot of plays.
The quarterback made a lot of plays, a lot of loose plays, scramble plays. Just didn't get the job done." More than a few New York Giants fans at the Meadowlands chanted, “We want Dart!” after Russell Wilson threw an interception during a third consecutive loss to start the season on Sunday night. The Giants are turning to rookie Jaxson Dart to start at quarterback in their next game Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers, according to two people familiar with the decision. The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday because the change had not been announced. Dart replaces Wilson with New York off to an 0-3 start and the unbeaten Chargers coming to town.
Wilson is expected to dress as the backup with journeyman Jameis Winston remaining third on the depth chart. Coach Brian Daboll was noncommittal Monday about who his QB would be after Wilson threw two interceptions in a 22-9 defeat to Kansas City on Sunday night. Daboll said he and his staff were “evaluating everything,” declining to answer who else might be involved in making a change at football’s most important position. Dart is set to make his first NFL start after getting a handful of snaps the past two weeks. He has yet to attempt a pass, while Wilson has thrown all of them so far, going 65 of 110 for 778 yards, three touchdowns and three picks. Here are five things to know about New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson.
Rookie first-round pick Jaxson Dart reportedly is taking over as starting quarterback, with veteran Russell Wilson benched effective immediately, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday. Dart's debut will come on Sunday against Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4. The Giants, at 0-3, head into the home matchup against the undefeated Chargers needing a spark that Wilson wasn't providing. The former Super Bowl MVP was handed the starting job after signing a one-year, $10.5 million contract with the Giants in March. The team also added Jameis Winston as another quarterback option before trading up to draft Dart at No. 25 overall a month later.
Wilson struggled early and often, though, leading to the quick switch. In his Giants debut, he was just 17 of 37 for 168 yards as the team had as many points scored as punts (6). He shined in Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys, passing for 450 yards before a costly overtime interception led to another loss. Then, on Sunday Night Football against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3, Wilson had two interceptions and just 160 yards. New York Giants starting quarterback responded to a question about rookie backup Jaxson Dart's ability going into the season. Let the Darty party begin – at least that’s what New York Giants fans are hoping.

After another dud from Giants quarterback Russell Wilson, head coach Brian Daboll and the coaching staff have come to the decision to start Dart, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. New York was raining with boos after another lackluster offensive performance in the 22-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday night, calling for Dart, as they've now got their wish. “A QB change: Giants are planning to start rookie Jaxson Dart on Sunday vs. the Chargers, sources told ESPN,” Schefter wrote on X, formerly Twitter. Wilson's three games with the team thus far have been inconsistent, as, besides throwing for 450 yards against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2, the opener and especially the last outing against Kansas City... On Sunday night, Wilson threw for 260 yards and two interceptions, which led to Daboll saying they are “evaluating everything” regarding a quarterback decision.
“We’re working through all personnel decisions. We’ll do that in the next few days,” Daboll said Sunday, via SNY. “I’d say we’re evaluating everything.”
