Our Standards: The Thomson Reuters Trust Principles., opens new tab The Giants have officially ruled rookie QB Jaxson Dart out for Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers. Dart has been expected to remain sidelined for the contest all week. The youngster is making his way through the five-step concussion protocol, but he hasn’t made enough progress to be fully cleared for his return just yet. The fact that he was able to get back out on the practice field and do some stretching during Friday's session is a potentially encouraging sign for his status heading into next week. For now, though, Big Blue will turn things over to veteran Jameis Winston.

Changes are happening for the New York Giants following Brian Daboll's dismissal. Jameis Winston will start Sunday's game against the Packers with Jaxson Dart in the league's concussion protocol, interim head coach Mike Kafka announced on Wednesday. Russell Wilson will assume the backup role. It's the first adjustment implemented by Kafka, who is now the Giants' interim head coach after Daboll was fired on Monday. Kafka served as New York's offensive coordinator since 2022. Winston's promotion to the No.

2 role over Wilson on the depth chart was initially reported Wednesday morning by NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo. Kafka also announced that tight ends coach Tim Kelly has been elevated to OC. "I think Jameis has done a great job since he's been here, just like all our quarterback room," Kafka said. "I got a lot of trust in that room, being in there all the time, pretty much every single day since we've been here. I got a good feel for those guys, and I think Jameis will do a heck of a job. I think he's a great leader, he has a lot of production in this league, and I think he's going to do a great job leading that group."

Quarterback Jameis Winston will start for the Giants this Sunday against the Packers with Jaxson Dart in the concussion protocol. Russell Wilson will be the backup. Mike Kafka made the announcement before Wednesday's practice in his first press conference since being named interim head coach. "I have a lot of confidence in Jameis, have a lot of confidence in Russ, and he'll be the backup as Jaxson works through the concussion protocol," Kafka said. "I think our players are pros. They're pros.

So, my job is to get them in the best position to be successful and work through the week here and continue to make adjustments with the staff as we're going to continue to... So really taking our time, making sure we cross our T's, dot our I's, put together a great plan for the players because that's really, at the end of the day, those are the... By Charlotte Carroll, Dianna Russini and Dan Duggan The New York Giants are making a change at quarterback. With rookie Jaxson Dart in concussion protocol, Jameis Winston will start Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. Winston was elevated ahead of Russell Wilson, interim coach Mike Kafka announced Wednesday. The move comes on the heels of the Giants firing coach Brian Daboll on Monday and naming Kafka their interim head coach. Dart exited the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 24-20 loss to the Bears with a concussion, and was replaced by Wilson.

Wilson went 3-of-7 passing for 45 yards, as the Giants squandered a lead and dropped to 2-8 for the season. The New York Giants will start Jameis Winston at quarterback against the Green Bay Packers on Nov. 16, interim coach Mike Kafka announced Wednesday, Nov. 12. Starter Jaxson Dart left his team's last game and entered the concussion protocol, his fourth concussion check of the season. Winston was chosen to replace Dart, ahead of former starter Russell Wilson.

Winston hasn't thrown a pass this season. He played in 12 games for the Cleveland Browns last year, posting an 80.6 quarterback rating with 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He last faced the Packers on Sept. 24, 2023, when Green Bay beat the New Orleans Saints, 18-17, in a Week 3 game where the Packers scored all 18 points in the fourth quarter. The Giants have lost all three of Wilson's starts this year. The former University of Wisconsin star, 37, has completed only 58% of his passes this year, which would easily mark a career-low if extrapolated over a season.

He has three touchdowns and three interceptions, with a 77.4 quarterback rating. Kafka, who played quarterback at Northwestern and led an upset of then-No. 17 Wisconsin in 2009 when he threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-31 win, was appointed the interim coach when the Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll on Nov. 10, one day after the Giants surrendered a late lead and lost to the Chicago Bears. Daboll had been the Giants' coach since 2022. The New York Giants now have a new coach and a new quarterback. Jameis Winston, who was previously the third-stringer, will start on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, the team announced Wednesday. Former backup Russell Wilson will be demoted behind Winston with rookie starter Jaxson Dart out due to a concussion. ESPN's Adam Schefter and Jordan Raanan first reported the news Wednesday, two days after the team fired Brian Daboll and named Mike Kafka the interim head coach. Winston, 31, signed a two-year deal with the Giants in the offseason after spending last year with the Cleveland Browns. He hasn't appeared in a regular season game in 2025, but he has 10 years of experience as the No.

1 overall pick in 2015. Winston played five seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, four with the New Orleans Saints and one with Cleveland, throwing 154 touchdowns and 111 interceptions in 105 games. With Jaxson Dart in the NFL's concussion protocol, the New York Giants will have a different starting quarterback on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. Interim coach Mike Kafka told reporters Wednesday that the team is going with Jameis Winston under center, not Russell Wilson. Wilson completed 3 of 7 passes for 45 yards and took two sacks in place of Dart as the Giants blew their fourth double-digit lead of the season to the Chicago Bears. After the Giants fired Brian Daboll, interim coach Kafka made the decision to place Winston over the 36-year-old on the depth chart.

Dart was officially ruled out Friday because of his concussion. Winston has been technically inactive for the entire 2025 season as the Giants' emergency third quarterback. He last played for the Cleveland Browns in 2024, going 2-5 as the starter while throwing for 2,121 yards, 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 12 total games played. Winston made the Pro Bowl in his first NFL season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and led the NFL in passing yards in 2019 with 5,109. That was the same year he recorded the first "30 and 30" season in NFL history, throwing 33 touchdowns and 30 interceptions. That was his final season in Tampa, as he then made his way to the New Orleans Saints.

Winston went 6-4 as the starter in New Orleans over four seasons, as injuries started to affect his availability. Known for his boom-or-bust play, Kafka is hoping he can spark this offense. As for Dart, this is the fourth time the rookie quarterback has been evaluated for a concussion this season. He has gone five straight games with a rushing touchdown, and is the fifth quarterback since 1970 to average 200 passing yards per game and 40 rushing yards per game in his first seven...
