Apply online or call us to start your application for free legal help from NJP and our partner organizations. CLEAR (Coordinated Legal Education, Advice and Referral) is a legal advice and referral hotline for low-income Washington residents with civil legal problems. The hotline is run by the Northwest Justice Project and serves individuals whose incomes are at or below 125% of the poverty line. Washington has three law schools: Seattle University School of Law (located in Seattle), University of Washington School of Law (located in Seattle) and Gonzaga University School of Law (located in Spokane). Each law school has a clinic program for members of the public to get legal advice and in some cases direct representation. The clinics each have different offerings in terms of which types of cases they accept. Contact the clinic in your area or visit their webpage to find more information on which services they provide.

A civil legal problem refers to a problem or a dispute with an individual, a company or a government program or office that affects a person’s property, benefits, or legal rights or obligations. Civil legal problems do not include criminal charges or criminal prosecution for illegal activity. Must be qualify for Low Income requirement.

NJPs mission is to secure justice through high quality legal advocacy that promotes the long-term well-being of low-income individuals, families, and communities. As a dynamic statewide law firm, we pursue our mission through legal advice and representation, community partnerships, and education to empower clients and combat injustice in all its forms. NJP generally handles civil legal problems facing low income people due to lack of income, problems with education, employment or loss of employment, disabilities, discrimination, consumer abuse or illegal business practices, physical or family... There is no charge for clients who are financially eligible for NJP services. NJP lawyers are paid by NJP with funds primarily provided by the federal government through the national Legal Services Corporation and by the state legislature through the Office of Civil Legal Aid. NJP also receives limited private funds and support from the Legal Foundation of Washington and the Campaign for Equal Justice.
