Kirk was shot and killed during a rally hosted by Turning Point USA, the organization he founded, at the university in Orem, Utah, on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
Authorities believe the shooter fired from the roof of a building about 200 yards away from where the rally was happening. On Thursday, Sept. 11, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) shared new details regarding the incident, writing in an X post, "The FBI is releasing video of the shooter who murdered Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University... OREM, Utah (AP) — The FBI released video showing the shooter who assassinated conservative activist Charlie Kirk as he jumped off a building and ran away from the campus. They appealed Thursday for the public’s help by releasing additional photos of the person they believe is responsible. Investigators said they gathered evidence, including a palm print, a shoe impression and a high-powered hunting rifle they believe the shooter used in a wooded area along the path the shooter fled.
The rifle was a Mauser .30-caliber, bolt-action rifle found in a towel in the woods, according to investigators. A spent cartridge was recovered from the chamber, and three other rounds were loaded in the magazine, according to information circulated among law enforcement and described to The Associated Press. The weapon and ammunition were being analyzed by law enforcement at a federal lab. Investigators have yet to name a suspect in the killing. FBI Director Kash Patel and Utah Gov. Spencer Cox held a news conference late Thursday in Utah relating to the investigation into the shooting of conservative commentator, Charlie Kirk.

The person is then seen running across a lawn and across the street.

At a news conference on Friday, Utah Governor Spencer Cox showed video footage of the suspect walking on the roof of the building from where the fatal shot was fired. He is then seen climbing down and heading toward a wooded area, where police say he abandoned his rifle. Additional images released by police show the suspect wearing a hat, sunglasses, and a backpack. The FBI and Utah officials have released new footage of the person of interest involved in the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk, which shows the suspect fleeing from the scene. The video was played at a press conference held by officials on Thursday, September 11, as the manhunt for Kirk’s killer continues. In the footage, the suspect can be seen running across the roof of the building from which the fatal shot that struck Kirk at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, September 10, was fired.
The controversial political commentator was 31. Officials at the press conference pointed out that the shooting suspect could be seen wearing a “distinctive” black T-shirt featuring an American flag and eagle as well as black pants. He was also wearing a baseball cap with a triangle, a pair of sunglasses and what appeared to be Converse shoes. Utah Governor Spencer Cox said the footage has been released to the public in a bid to gather more information and tips from witnesses or anyone with more information.
