The New England Patriots have a lot of problems to fix on their roster. Fortunately for them, there’s a draft option that can help patch multiple holes with one pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. In his latest mock draft, ESPN analyst Jordan Reid predicted that the Patriots would land Colorado’s Travis Hunter with the No. 4 overall pick. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner is a unique prospect who played both wide receiver and cornerback at an elite level last year. Reid thinks the world of Hunter, and laid out a plan where the two-way player could help solve a lot of problems quickly.

“Hunter is my top player in this class and a rare prospect, even beyond his two-way ability,” Reid wrote. “His spatial awareness, quickness and ball skills are unique no matter where he plays. I’d put Hunter full time at corner and sprinkle in 20-25 plays a game at receiver. The Patriots need to stack talent, and Hunter gives them an A+ start in that quest.” In his projection, Reid had quarterbacks Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders going with the first two picks. He then had Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter going at No.

This position represents the team's most glaring roster weakness, and it's not even close. They have to find someone who can protect franchise quarterback Drake Maye. Therefore, it would make sense for the Patriots to select Will Campbell with the No. 4 pick in the first round. The LSU star is the No. 1 ranked left tackle in the class. Campbell would be a safe pick, especially if Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter and Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter are off the board at No. 4.

The 2025 NFL Draft is just a few days away, and there's still plenty of debate over what the New England Patriots should do with the No. 4 overall pick in the first round. In this trade, Eliot Wolf and company would acquire the sixth overall pick and a number of other picks or players. Some mock drafts are in full swing, and a recent one from ESPN has the New England Patriots selecting a playmaking corner with the sixth overall pick of the 2025 NFL draft. Michigan’s Will Johnson would be a fit for New England, according to ESPN’s Matt Miller. Johnson has been a staple on the Michigan defense during his time in Ann Arbor. He has 68 combined tackles, nine interceptions, 10 pass deflections and three interceptions returned for touchdowns during his three seasons with the Wolverines. Miller believes the Patriots could benefit from another corner, as they look to reload the defense.

Left tackle is an important need for the Patriots, but the offensive tackle class isn’t strong beyond Kelvin Banks Jr. Instead of reaching, the Patriots could fill another need at corner with Johnson, my top-rated prospect in the class. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Johnson fits the mold of Pat Surtain II, showing excellent ball skills and the physicality to hang with NFL wide receivers. He has been limited by injuries this season but has two interceptions, both of which were returned for touchdowns. Pairing Johnson with 2023 first-rounder Christian Gonzalez would give the Patriots a legitimate spot of strength on defense, and having two top corners on rookie contracts would give New England flexibility to build around... The New England Patriots have a lot of work to do this offseason, as they need to make upgrades all over their roster after their miserable 2024 campaign.

One avenue that they can utilize is the upcoming 2025 NFL draft, where they are armed with the No. 4 overall pick, giving them a lot of different options they could end up pursuing. The Pats have needs all over their roster. They desperately need to infuse their offense with talent, whether it be on the offensive line, or in the playmaker positions to give quarterback Drake Maye more options to work with. Their defense could also use some help, particularly in the front seven. Could New England end up drafting a player in Travis Hunter who could fill in on both sides of the ball?

Not only did he play on both sides, but he excelled as both a wide receiver and a cornerback. On offense, Hunter hauled in 96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns. Defensively, Hunter had 36 tackles, four interceptions, 11 passes defended, and a fumble forced. New England could fill a pair of holes by adding one player, but there's no guarantee he will play both sides of the ball in the NFL, despite his desire to do so. The Patriots could end up locking in on other top prospects, like defensive lineman Abdul Carter or offensive lineman Will Campbell, or they could ultimately end up trading down from this pick too. If they landed Hunter, though, it's safe to say that fans would be quite fired up.

Most mock drafts have the New England Patriots going in one of three directions: wide receiver, offensive lineman or pass rusher. But on Monday, ESPN’s Matt Miller had New England going with a bit of a surprise in the 2025 NFL Draft. Miller has the Patriots take a defensive tackle. Specifically, the ESPN draft analyst had New England taking Michigan defensive lineman Mason Graham at No. 4 overall in his mock draft posted Monday. The pick doesn’t wouldn’t address the team’s biggest need.

However, Miller suggests that the Patriots could bring in him at offensive line and receiver in free agency.
