Erika Kirk Discusses The Tragic Death Of Her Husband In Major
The widow of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk spoke publicly for the first time since his assassination, sharing emotional details of her grief, final moments with her husband, and how she is keeping his legacy... Erika Kirk sat down with Fox News host Jesse Watters for a special edition interview titled “Erika Kirk: In Her Own Words,” airing on Jesse Watters Primetime. Charlie Kirk, a well-known conservative speaker and founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot in Utah earlier this year while attending a campus speaking event. According to investigators, he was struck by a single round from a bolt-action rifle shortly after noon local time. Erika Kirk described the moment she learned about her husband’s death as a “nightmare” she’s still living through. “I never saw the video, I never will see it,” she told Fox News.
“There are certain things you see in your life that mark your soul forever. I don’t want my husband’s public assassination to be something I ever see. I don’t want my kids to ever see that.” The night before the shooting, Erika and the couple’s young daughter had slept in the master bedroom while Charlie chose to sleep in their daughter’s room. She said she wanted him to get a good night’s rest before his next public appearance. Erika recalled that Charlie had been especially excited that night about the event.
“The next morning, he came in and he grabbed his wedding ring and necklace, and then he left,” she recalled. “I didn’t even get to give him a kiss goodbye.” Erika Kirk, Charlie Kirk's widow, speaks at the memorial service for the right-wing activist at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., on Sunday. "That man, that young man … I forgive him," Kirk said, wiping away tears as the audience at Kirk's memorial at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., erupted in applause on Sunday. "I forgive him because it was what Christ did and is what Charlie would do," she said. "The answer to hate is not hate. The answer we know from the gospel is love and always love. Love for our enemies and love for those who persecute us." Last week prosecutors filed murder charges against 22-year-old Tyler Robinson.
Officials said Robinson had admitted to shooting Kirk to his roommate, saying in a text message, "I had enough of his hatred." Erika Kirk bravely shared her first televised interview since the tragic death of her husband, Charlie Kirk, earlier this year. “I can’t help [but] smile to hear his name or say it,” Erika, 36, said during the November 5 episode of Jesse Watters Primetime. “He was the love of my life. [He] still is.” Charlie and Erika married in May 2021 and welcomed two children: a daughter in 2022 and a son in 2024.
Tragically, Charlie was shot and killed on September 10 while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. He was only 31 years old. Orem, Utah — Erika Kirk reflected on her life with her late husband, Charlie Kirk, during her first televised interview since his tragic death earlier this year. In a heartfelt segment aired on November 5, Erika described her deep affection for her husband, stating, “I can’t help but smile to hear his name or say it. He was the love of my life. He still is.” Charlie Kirk, known for co-founding Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on September 10 while addressing a crowd at Utah Valley University. At just 31 years old, he left behind two young children, a daughter born in 2022 and a son born shortly before his death.
In an emotional eulogy at his public memorial, Erika spoke about forgiveness in the wake of tragedy, expressing her belief that “the answer to hate is not hate.” Her sentiments reflected a focus on... “I forgive him because it is what Christ did,” she stated, highlighting her desire to rise above the painful circumstances surrounding Charlie’s death. The investigation into the shooting has continued, with Tyler Robinson, the suspected attacker, turning himself in two days later. Facing serious charges including aggravated murder, he has yet to enter a plea. Erika revealed her struggle to cope with the aftermath, including how she learned of the shooting while accompanying her mother to a medical appointment, a moment she will never forget. Erika Kirk revealed she found out that her late husband, Charlie Kirk, had been shot through a frantic phone call from his assistant, Michael McCoy.
Speaking to the New York Times for her first interview since the death of her husband, Erika said McCoy called her and screamed, “He’s been shot!” She detailed jumping on a plane immediately to rush to her husband’s side. However, while she was still in the air, she was told he had died. “I’m looking at the clouds and the mountains,” she recalled. “It was such a gorgeous day, and I was thinking: This is exactly what he last saw.” Erika chose to look at her husband’s body when she arrived at the hospital, despite a sheriff advising her not to because the bullet had “ravaged” his neck.
