Did you know that the State Bar of New Mexico offers free and unlimited access to a legal research platform? We are excited to announce that starting Nov. 19, your Fastcase member benefit will transition to vLex Fastcase. This improved legal research platform includes all the materials you currently access on Fastcase, plus new features designed specifically for attorneys. With vLex Fastcase, you can cancel your subscription to Westlaw or LexisNexis and redirect those funds to other valuable resources. No action is required from you today.

A key feature of this enhanced service is the Cert citator, which flags negative treatment and other citations to cases. Cert goes beyond Fastcase’s previous citation service, Bad Law Bot, by offering editorial oversight, improving accuracy and delivering more comprehensive legal research. Also included are advanced capabilities from Vincent AI, the award-winning research assistant from vLex.

State Bar Bar members will benefit from automated headnotes, case summaries, and Vincent's ability to identify similar legal documents. Premium features, such as 50-state surveys and argument drafting, are available via subscription. In October 2024, Fastcase 7, WSBA's free legal research platform for members, transitioned to vLex Fastcase. The upgraded platform includes everything Fastcase 7 offers plus unique features to enhance your productivity and provide you with greater insights into legal matters. For a limited time, you’ll have access to both platforms to ensure a smooth transition. We’ll notify you when Fastcase 7 is set to be fully retired, so you have time to adjust.

The Missouri Bar has partnered with Fastcase since 2007 to offer complimentary legal research to its members. If you’re a member of The Missouri Bar, you can access Fastcase’s nationwide legal research service – cases, statutes, regulations, court rules, and constitutions. The service includes free reference attorney support by phone or chat and unlimited searching and printing. The service normally costs $1,145 per year, but Missouri Bar members receive this service at no cost. While Fastcase was building a deep library of legal materials in the United States, vLex was founded in 2000 in Spain and worked to democratize the law in Europe, Latin America, and Asia. Sharing a common mission, Fastcase merged with vLex in 2023.

The Fastcase legal research service will be called vLex Fastcase in the United States, and the global corporate name remains vLex. The merge formed one of the world’s largest law libraries, with more than 1 billion documents in the combined library from more than 110 countries, and more than 3 million subscribers. Veteran legal journalist Bob Ambrogi said the merger would “reshape the legal research and legal technology landscape on a global basis.”
