They are designed to prepare students who have already been accepted into Seattle University to successfully meet the rigorous challenges of the University’s degree programs. The English Language and Culture Bridge courses are highly advanced, with a specific focus on university-level reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. In addition, the course work concentrates on the American academic culture and the specific preparation for being successful in the American education system. It is a division of City University of Seattle and its mission is to promote cross-cultural understanding through language instruction and teacher training.

WAL offers a premier English Language Program (ELP), 10 world languages and graduate TESOL certificate. If you wish to learn a world language, WAL’s esteemed faculty is here to help. WAL’s World Language Programs offer flexible night and weekend programs in the following 10 languages: The curriculum taught in these language courses range from beginner to advanced. Courses focus on all aspects of language: speaking, pronunciation, culture, reading, writing and comprehension.

The UW LLC in partnership with the UW Department of Linguistics will be piloting a program beginning in fall quarter 2025 titled, Facilitated Interdependent Language Learning (FILL) for Super Less Commonly Taught Languages. The Facilitated Interdependent Language Learning (FILL) course is a unique learning opportunity to study a language that is not currently offered at UW. Learn More The UW Workshop on Language for Specific Purposes aims to provide language instructors with a space to share their successes and challenges.

This workshop will explore experiences designing and teaching LSP courses, including assessment and the inclusion of technology, as well as experiences with community engagement projects and private industry partnerships with LSP courses. This 2-day workshop will explore current research and theory on the intersection of gamification and applied linguistics. We will discuss the pros and cons of digital serious games, traditional classroom games, as well as more novel games that encourage creative and meaningful language use. Additionally, we will investigate how to gamify a course and move beyond isolated game activities. English Language Learning Center offers several custom, short-term, cultural-exchange programs for groups of international students from abroad. Custom programs are designed to help students learn more about a specific topic, improve their English language fluency, and provide them with an opportunity to interact with native speakers. The programs can be arranged in July or August and can be customized for two, three, or four weeks. Each program consists of: The topics available for Summer 2024 programs are: Important Note: ELLC Custom Programs are currently only arranged for groups of students coming from universities abroad.

At this moment we are not able to accommodate individual students. 9:00-12:00: Class Exploration of the topic. Students explore the chosen topic and improve their English skills through readings, discussions, and listening to guest speakers. The class includes a final project that consists of online research, public opinion research, and the final presentation. The ELCB courses are open to Seattle University students and designed specifically for multilingual speakers for whom English might not be their first/primary language. The courses are highly advanced, with a specific focus on university-level reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.

ELCB has different requirements for students depending on their English proficiency: For more information about Proof of English Proficiency Requirement, please visit Undergraduate Admissions or Graduate Admissions. Important Note: The ELCB Program is only available to students who are already accepted into Seattle University. Seattle University does not offer an intensive English program in which you can study only English. If you have been accepted with the ELCB requirement or you would like to take ELCB classes, here is what to expect: Registration: If you have an ELCB requirement, you will not be able to register for classes on your own due to the ELCB hold.

If you don’t have to take ELCB classes but you would like to register for one, please reach out to ELLC or an advisor for more information. Learning Assistance Programs supports students in their ongoing growth and development by providing academic support and learning strategy enhancement through a variety of services to meet individual needs. We offer content support in a variety of undergraduate 1000–3000 level courses in the areas of Languages, Science, Nursing and Math through drop-in tutoring, weekly tutoring or weekly facilitated study and language conversation groups. We also offer learning strategy support through individual consultation appointments (academic coaching sessions) or quarterly learning strategy workshops for all students. By providing you access to resources that support your development as a learner and your overall well-being, we support your academic goals and path to graduation and equip you with the tools you need... Our combination of services is delivered by professional staff and peer educators so you can choose which combination of resources meets your unique needs. As a nationally certified program through the College Reading and Learning Association, peer educators complete ongoing professional development opportunities to ensure that they are well-positioned to offer strategic and thorough support for their peers... Successful completion of these exams may satisfy all or part of the College of Arts and Sciences requirement of one year of proficiency in a modern language. However, no Seattle University credit is awarded. Our curricula are the gateway to cultivating citizens of the world.
