Self-Paced courses are designed for independent learners who want more time to complete Seattle Central College credits. These courses enable you to earn transfer credits or credits towards a degree and you can enroll after the start of the quarter.

Students receive up to 6 months to complete their course and there are no required campus meetings. NOTE: Students are NOT able to start and end a Self-paced course at any time. The eLearning site allows students to view all the eLearning courses currently being offered across the District in one spot. Through this site, students can register for classes at any college regardless of what college they are currently attending / registered at. Meet online to share and collaborate from remote locations with video and audio options. Office 365 provides a full suite of Microsoft software for your use. Google accounts by request. Find the answers to common question below. eLearning offers you the convenience of taking your course fully online or partially online in our learning management system (LMS) called Canvas. Canvas is a Web-based online and collaboration portal that enables educators to create, add and manage course materials and communicate with students.

Canvas allows students to engage with the material, other students, the instructor and submit assignments and take quizzes online. Canvas is used by K-12, colleges, and universities. At Seattle Colleges we use Canvas for most classes: fully online, virtual, hybrid and campus face to face classes. The number and requirement of on-campus meetings varies by course and is indicated under the class description; some eLearning courses have at least one on-campus meeting per quarter that is usually a recommended orientation... Some courses may include proctored exams which can be taken on the North's campus or at another institution with the prior consent of the instructor. If you are eligible for WA State Employee Tuition Waiver, you can get a permission from your course instructor to add you in to the class before you can officially register.

Once you obtain the permission from the instructor, please forward the email to elearning@seattlecolleges.edu with your SID, full name, course name and course item number. We can add you in the class manually so that you can participate the course. eLearning courses are designed for students who cannot or do not want to come to campus because of their work schedules, family needs or because they prefer the online or hybrid structure of learning. eLearning students can control their own schedules by working with the course materials at their convenience within the framework of the course syllabus. However, the courses are not self-paced; classes begin and end on the same schedule as regular campus classes. Depending on the instructor, there are also regular assignments, and exams are due on specific days.

Online learning requires you to have good time management and communication skills, as well as being comfortable around technology. We have compiled a list of some skills to have or skills you are willing to learn as well as a quick survey to determine if being an online student is for you. While online learning does allow flexibility and mobility, they are just as rigorous as campus face-to-face classes.
