Drake Maye Leads Patriots To 8th Straight Win Longest Streak Since Tom
Metchie just reeled in an 18-yard gain on third down, taking a big hit in the process and holding on. There haven't been many bright moments for the Jets tonight, but Metchie (three catches on three targets, 45 yards, one touchdown) has been one. Nice work from Micheal Clemons to tip Drake Maye's third-down pass. It's still a two-score game, but the Jets have to kick it into gear right now. Justin Fields mishandled a low snap, trief to pick it up but couldn't, and now New England is already in the red zone. Down 10 with under eight minutes left, the Jets desperately needed a stop, and Brandon Stephens delivered.
The veteran cornerback got beat deep by Mack Hollins but stayed with the play and swiped through the ball perfectly just as it appeared Hollins would reel it in. Big play -- and a very good one -- by Stephens, who has had an up-and-down year. It's 24-14 New England. Not the perfect response -- Jermaine Johnson sacking Drake Maye bogged down the drive -- but a pretty good one to restore the lead to two scores. Maye has a league-leading 2,836 passing yards, 20 touchdowns (tied for second in the NFL) and just five interceptions under his belt through 11 games. With Thursday's win, the Patriots improved to 9-2 on the season, good for first place in the AFC East. On Friday's edition of "The Herd," FOX Sports' Colin Cowherd broke down why he believes Maye is primarily to thank for their recent success and why the 23-year-old deserves to win NFL MVP. "[In the NFL], winning games comes down to your quarterback making five, six, seven [good] throws or decisions," Cowherd said.
"High-level execution. … Mike Vrabel isn't winning that game last night with Justin Fields as his quarterback. Foxborough, Mass. — The Patriots were prepared to give coach Mike Vrabel time to establish a new culture for a team that had won just four games in each of the last two seasons. He already has New England sitting atop the league in his first year. Rookie TreVeyon Henderson rushed for two touchdowns and made a TD catch to help Drake Maye and the Patriots win their eighth straight game, 27-14, over the New York Jets on Thursday night.
“No one feels outmatched. We’re never going to feel like an underdog,” linebacker Robert Spillane said. “We’re going to continue to play team defense, team offense, team football and just let the chips fall where they may. … We know the real season is ahead of us.” The Patriots (9-2) matched their longest streak since Tom Brady’s final season with the team in 2019, when they won their first eight. The Patriots’ 3-0 record in AFC East games is their best start in the division since 2019 (5-0).
Drake Maye had a near perfect night from Foxborough as the New England Patriots beat Justin Fields and the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football. He ended the night with 62 yards and two TDs on 19 rushes and a TD catch later in the game to complete his hat trick.

Pending this weekend’s games, first-year coach Mike Vrabel’s Patriots have the best record in the NFL; Indianapolis and Denver are 8-2. And New England will have a winning season for the first time since 2021, when it last made the playoffs. With Rhamondre Stevenson out for the third straight game with a toe injury, Henderson logged a career-high 19 rushing attempts, totaling 62 yards. His two TD runs matched his total from Sunday’s win over Tampa Bay. Maye was solid, completing 25 of 34 passes for 281 yards and a TD. Stefon Diggs had nine catches for 105 yards, his third 100-yard game of the season.
