The chants were loud at Gillette Stadium on Thursday night as Drake Maye helped lead the New England Patriots to the team's ninth win of the season. And with that, the Patriots hold the best record in the NFL, sitting at 9-2. But, no matter how loud the chants are, Maye has continued to stay humble and never shows any signs that they are getting to him. After each and every game, he is critical of things he can do better while hyping up his teammates for their efforts. And that's exactly what he did after the Week 11 primetime win when asked how it feels to get those "MVP" chants. "Yeah, may have been for TreVeyon (Henderson) tonight," Maye said with a smile.

"He scored three touchdowns." But then, he also took a moment to give love to the fans. The Patriots are 9-2, holding the best record in the NFL after Thursday night's 27-14 victory over the AFC East division rival Jets. The developmental leap of second-year quarterback Drake Maye bears much of the credit for New England's success this season. He was phenomenal again on Thursday, completing 25 of his 34 passing attempts for 281 yards and a touchdown in the win. Much like he last Sunday in Tampa from a Patriots-heavy road crowd, Maye received "MVP" chants as he exited his home field in Foxborough on Thursday night.

On Sunday, Maye deflected, saying the MVP chants may have been for Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield. Thursday night, Maye deflected his success again and complimented rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson in the process. "Those may have been for TreVeyon tonight. I mean, he scored three touchdowns. Our fans have been great with me since I got here...just appreciate them for embracing me. I'm just trying to embrace this city and give these fans, this team, myself...just leave it all out there and give it everything I got."

"No, I didn't hear it.

The guys were making fun of me about my slide back in the huddle on the long run, so I didn't hear it," Maye said of the cheers, via Boston.com. "But the fans have been awesome all season. It's been really cool really to see the difference from last year to this year. Man, it's been a journey. "They've been through it, and the fans have been through it the last couple years. Maye's play in recent weeks has thrust his name into the MVP conversation. There were wobbly moments against the NFL's No. 3 scoring defense, with Myles Garrett earning five sacks, but the second-year signal-caller was flawless in the second half as the Pats ran away from a good Browns defense.

In the second half, Maye completed all eight of his passes for 114 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions for a 158.3 passer rating. For the game, he went 18 of 24 (75%) for 282 yards, three TDs and an INT for a 135.8 passer rating. The second-year quarterback led New England to a commanding 32-13 win over the Browns, further strengthening his path in the MVP race. His performance, three touchdowns, 289 passing yards and a perfect second half, sent Patriots fans into a frenzy as chants echoed around Gillette Stadium. Yet Maye, laughing afterward, said he didn’t hear them because teammates were giving him a hard time about his clumsy slide on a 28-yard run moments before the touchdown. Head coach Mike Vrabel joined in the fun, joking postgame that he might need to send Maye to spring training to learn how to slide properly. It was the only blemish on what was otherwise a near-flawless outing against the NFL’s top-ranked defense. Once considered a project, Maye has quickly evolved into one of the league’s most efficient passers, completing over 75 percent of his throws this season.
