This program provides individualized services, resources, and developmental interventions to address the needs of young children and their families. By focusing on bridging gaps in skills, knowledge, and readiness, the program ensures that children enter the next developmental phase—whether it's a preschool program, early learning center, or kindergarten—fully prepared and equipped to thrive. About 1 of every 8 children has a challenge with development that makes them eligible for Early Support for Infants and Toddlers (ESIT). With early support, most children catch up with their peers! ESIT supports children ages 0-3 and their families with milestones like walking, talking, eating, playing, and learning. Families gain skills and knowledge to support their child's needs.

Early Support for Infants and Toddlers (ESIT) Anyone who has a concern about a child's development can make a referral including parents/caregivers. To refer a child, choose one of the following options: After the referral, an ESIT representative will contact you to find out more about your child and schedule a Developmental Evaluation. That evaluation will help to identify your child’s strengths and areas of growth and figure out if your child is eligible for ESIT. Early Support services take place in your child’s natural environments!

This may be your home, at childcare, or at other community locations you and your family go to. Sometimes services may be available virtually. For a child with developmental delays and disabilities, the effectiveness of Early Services is clear: children make improvements in their functional daily living skills, parents increase their knowledge and confidence to support and advocate... Ideally, families with concerns about their child’s development would access ESIT services early on, but there are circumstances where this is not possible. Some children’s delays could be mild/go undiagnosed until later; there might be a language/cultural barrier; or the family might be facing sociological instability such as homelessness. In other cases, families who plan to continue therapies following their transition out of ESIT Programs might face delays in accessing their next point of care, whether their children transition to the Seattle Public...

That’s where the Seattle Developmental Bridge Program comes in, providing connections to: The Bridge Program is for children between the ages of 34 ½ – 48 months. Services are customized, flexible and tailored to meet the unique needs of each child and family. Bridge Program services are temporary, lasting up to 6 months, and conclude with the connection to the child’s next point of care (private therapy, the Seattle Public School System, etc). The Bridge program offers developmental screenings and short-term therapeutic support for qualifying children birth through four years of age in Seattle, serving as the “bridge” to other long-term community resources. Services are flexible and customized to meet the child and family’s unique needs.
