President Donald J. Trump took office on a promise to defeat inflation and bring down costs — and 11 months later, he has made substantial progress in reversing the inflation and cost-of-living disaster he inherited. Inflation has been cut by more than half, gas prices have fallen sharply, real wages are growing again, and key household expenses are finally heading in the right direction. Democrats caused it. Under Biden, inflation averaged nearly 5% and hit 9.1% amid the worst inflation crisis in decades — fueled by the Radical Left’s obsession with spending. President Trump is fixing it.

In President Trump’s second term, inflation has dropped to an average of just 2.7% — the critical first step in reversing Democrats’ cost-of-living disaster. In fact, under President Trump, Americans have even seen the first overall price decline since 2020. Core inflation — often called the best measure of inflation — is now lower than it was at any time during the last three years of the Biden Administration. Democrats caused it. Under Biden, prices rose across the board; for example, car prices rose 22%, gas prices rose 30%, hotel rates rose 37%, and airfares rose 31%. President Trump is fixing it.

Under President Trump, prices for eggs, butter, ice cream, fresh fruit, cereal, fish, seafood, rice, pasta, and ham have all seen declines — while the price of a Thanksgiving turkey this year was down... Other everyday essentials, like toothpaste, shampoo, toilet paper, laundry detergent, and diapers, have all substantially decreased in price over the past year. The president delivered a year-end address on Wednesday. President Donald Trump said during his presidential address on Wednesday night that his administration is "bringing our economy back from the brink of ruin," claiming that he has brought prices down across the board. "I am bringing those high prices down and bringing them down very fast," Trump said from the White House's Diplomatic Room, adding, "Let's look at the facts." He made sweeping claims about prices -- from gasoline and groceries to airfare and hotel flights -- comparing the current price to that of former President Joe Biden's administration.

But according to the most recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the president's claims in some cases appeared to be exaggerated, false or unverifiable. President Trump weaved through topics at a rally in Pennsylvania Tuesday night, calling affordability a Democratic "hoax" and sharing his grievances about immigrants. Trump told a rally crowd in Pennsylvania Tuesday night that he has no higher priority than making America affordable again. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: They caused the high prices, and we're bringing them down. It's a simple message. TRUMP: If I had one message tonight - you know, this is being covered, like all over the world.

This is crazy, 'cause I haven't made a speech in a little while. You know, when you win, you say, oh, I can now rest. FADEL: He talked about a whole lot of other things, too. By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, December 21, 2025 4:00 pm If you’ve felt the squeeze at the grocery store or pump, President Donald J. Trump wants you to know — he sees it too, and he’s taking the blame off hardworking Americans and putting it where it belongs: squarely on the failed economic policies of the last administration.

In a new year-end article from the White House, the Trump team lays out the case plainly: inflation and high costs didn’t come from mysterious market forces — they came from Democrat spending, regulation,... And for the first time in years, prices are falling. Under President Joseph R. Biden, prices soared across the board — from used cars and hotel rooms to airfare and gasoline: That kind of inflation wasn’t random. It was the predictable outcome of massive government spending, endless regulations, and a federal government that lost touch with everyday Americans.

WASHINGTON — President Trump made dozens of promises when he campaigned to retake the White House last year, from boosting economic growth to banning transgender athletes from girls’ sports. But one pledge stood out as the most important in many voters’ eyes: Trump said he would not only bring inflation under control, but push grocery and energy prices back down. “Starting the day I take the oath of office, I will rapidly drive prices down, and we will make America affordable again,” he said in 2024. “Your prices are going to come tumbling down, your gasoline is going to come tumbling down, and your heating bills and cooling bills are going to be coming down.”

He hasn’t delivered. Gasoline and eggs are cheaper than they were a year ago, but most other prices are still rising, including groceries and electricity. The Labor Department estimated Thursday that inflation is running at 2.7%, only a little better than the 3% Trump inherited from Joe Biden; electricity was up 6.9%. After nearly two months without new consumer price data, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released its latest report Thursday, providing a glimpse at energy costs, food prices and other everyday expenses. According to the consumer price index, inflation slowed in November, with prices rising 0.2% over the 0.3% observed in September. (BLS could not collect October data because of the government shutdown.)

Still, inflation remains stubbornly high. Compared with a year ago, consumer costs are up about 2.7%. Thursday’s report came just a day after President Donald Trump delivered a prime-time address from the White House in which he largely discussed affordability concerns, from housing costs to grocery prices, saying the U.S. is “poised for an economic boom.” “The last administration and their allies in Congress looted our treasury for trillions of dollars, driving up prices and everything at levels never seen before. I am bringing those high prices down and bringing them down very fast.”

About six months into the second term of President Donald Trump, Republicans and Democrats are making conflicting and often misleading assessments of the Trump administration’s impact on inflation and prices. Both sides cherry-pick examples of consumer products to support their claims, while sometimes wrongly taking credit for lower prices or falsely casting blame for rising costs. Experts say the reasons for the rise or fall of prices usually involve a number of factors beyond the policies implemented in the first six months of the current administration, and predictions of success... “The economy is roaring, business confidence is soaring, incomes are up, prices are down and inflation is dead, it’s dead,” Trump proclaimed at the White House Faith Office luncheon on July 14. At a news briefing the same day, Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries offered a different portrait of the American economy. “Costs aren’t going down in the United States of America, costs are going up,” he said.

“America is too expensive. And things aren’t getting better under Donald Trump and House Republican rule, they’re getting worse.” Inflation, a major theme of the 2024 election, had increased substantially during the first half of President Joe Biden’s term, due largely to the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic. For the 12-month period ending in June 2022, the Consumer Price Index increased 9.1% – “the largest 12-month change since the period ending November 1981,” the Bureau of Labor Statistics said. The annual CPI moderated to below 3% for the six months before Trump returned to the White House, as we’ve written. It was 3% for the 12 months ending in January.
