commanders reload for jayden daniels with explosive reunion in 2026

Jayden Daniels carries the weight of an entire NFL franchise on his young shoulders. The Washington Commanders threw their weight behind the quarterback this offseason. Expect general manager Adam Peters to adopt a similar strategy when the 2026 offseason rolls around. And one NFL Draft analyst thought reuniting Daniels with one of his old college teammates is an option to consider when the time comes. There is a long way to go and a lot of football ahead before attention turns to the 2026 NFL Draft. Prospects will rise and fall throughout the college campaign.

Some will take advantage of the ongoing NIL benefits to stay with their respective programs longer than expected. There are several moving parts, but Peters and his exceptional scouting department will be keeping a close eye on developments. It's all guesswork from analysts at this early stage. Ryan Wilson from CBS Sports thought explosive wide receiver Aaron Anderson could be in play for the Commanders in his early mock draft, especially considering his previously developed chemistry with Washington's prized possession. Anderson and Daniels spent the 2023 campaign working together at LSU. The dynamic signal-caller won the Heisman Trophy that year, but the freshman was a limited contributor.

He gained just 12 receptions for 59 receiving yards as others took center stage. But there was a lot more to like about his performance levels last season with increased responsibilities on his shoulders. The NFL is nearing the trade deadline on November 4, and teams are starting to position themselves to be buyers or sellers just beyond the season’s midway point. While the Washington Commanders aren’t firmly in either group, there is a sale they could be interested in being a part of, for various reasons. When healthy, the Commanders have one of the best top-two receiver duos in the league with Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel. The problem is, the two haven’t been healthy together much more than they’ve been held out of the same game.

While McLaurin has been out since Week 3, Samuel was sidelined in Week 7 and didn’t exactly look like himself in Week 6, both losses. Noah Brown, the intended third receiver in a trio of top weapons for Washington, has been on the shelf since Week 2 himself and is currently on injured reserve. So, with news coming out Saturday that a young receiver with loads of potential might be available, it was hard for us not to stand up and take notice. The fact that he’s one of Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels’ college teammates only adds fuel to the fire. Jayden Daniels and Aaron Anderson Eye Electric Reunion in Washington When it comes to college quarterback-wide receiver duos transitioning their chemistry to the NFL, few partnerships have made waves quite like Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase. Their 2019 season at LSU remains one of the most iconic campaigns in college football history, and their continued success with the Cincinnati Bengals has only amplified the fascination around college teammates reconnecting at... Now, another LSU reunion may be on the horizon, and it could electrify the Washington Commanders’ offense in the years ahead. CBS Sports NFL reporter Ryan Wilson has sparked excitement by projecting LSU wide receiver Aaron Anderson to join forces once again with Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. Wilson’s early 2026 NFL mock draft has Washington selecting Anderson with the 26th overall pick, potentially recreating some of the LSU magic that powered Daniels to Heisman Trophy glory in 2023.

The comparison to Burrow and Chase is inevitable. In 2019, Burrow shattered records by throwing for 5,671 yards, 60 touchdowns, and only six interceptions, earning the Heisman Trophy and ultimately being selected first overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. His primary target, Ja’Marr Chase, recorded 84 receptions for 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns, playing alongside future NFL All-Pro Justin Jefferson. A year later, Chase followed Burrow to the Bengals as the fifth overall pick in the 2021 draft. Since reuniting in Cincinnati, Burrow and Chase have led the Bengals to a Super Bowl appearance and another AFC Championship Game, while becoming two of the highest-paid players in NFL history. The Washington Commanders just got a glimpse of their quarterback of the future last season.

Jayden Daniels looked spectacular right out of the gate, and he led his team to a 12-5 record in the regular season and the NFC Championship Game. That’s why, after that heartbreaking loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, he just couldn’t wait to get back on the field with his team. As shown in a clip shared by Dov Kleiman on X, the LSU standout was literally sprinting to get back to the Commanders’ facility as fast as he could. 𝗧𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚: Jayden Daniels couldn't wait to be back at the Commanders' facility 😅😂 Heading into this season, no second-year player has a level of buzz around them on par with Jayden Daniels. As the young quarterback prepares for his sophomore campaign, one former NFL star expects him to join an illustrious group in the near future.

In 2024, Daniels put together one of the best rookie years from a QB in recent memory. He led the Commanders to 12 wins in the regular season and got them within arm's reach of a Super Bowl appearance. Now, he is tasked with living up to the massive expectations set for him. It features names like Saquon Barkley, Lamar Jackson, Ja'Marr Chase, and reigning league MVP Josh Allen.

While on ESPN's Get Up earlier this week, Chad Ochocinco gave his thoughts on this year's group. He believes that Daniels will be among the new faces in the 99 Club in the not-so-distant future. Nothing is off the table for the Washington Commanders this offseason. They have an abundance of resources to strengthen and are an attractive destination again after a miraculous run to the NFC Championship game. Adam Peters must seize the initiative and be aggressive in pursuit of getting over the hump. Free agency and the draft will play a big part.

Peters will examine potential trades that can help the Commanders win now while also offering a more promising outlook for the future. Several veteran stars have either handed in trade requests or been told to explore opportunities elsewhere. Peters is no stranger to this after two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jonathan Allen declared his desire for a fresh challenge heading into the final year of his deal. One player being strongly linked with a move to Washington is Deebo Samuel Sr. San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch gave the Commanders (or anyone else) the green light to explore the possibility in greater detail. Lynch officially confirmed that he plans to honor Samuel's trade request during his media availability at the NFL Scouting Combine.

While he's reluctant and holds the player in high regard, there's an acknowledgment that it's the best possible solution for all parties.
