Commanders Fall To Seahawks 38 14 Lose Jayden Daniels To Arm Injury
Jayden Daniels exited with an arm injury late in the fourth quarter. Sam Darnold threw four first-half touchdowns. Washington retired Art Monk’s No. 81 jersey at halftime. WASHINGTON - Jayden Daniels left Washington’s game against Seattle with 7:29 remaining Sunday night after his left, nonthrowing arm bent awkwardly during a tackle near the goal line in the team’s 38-14 loss to... Daniels walked to the tunnel under his own power, but it marked yet another setback in a spiraling season for the second-year quarterback and Washington.
The Washington Commanders suffered their fourth consecutive loss on Sunday night at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks, but the biggest loss of the night came near the end of the fourth quarter. Jayden Daniels, who had just returned from a hamstring injury sustained two weeks ago, was escorted off the field after suffering an injury to his left arm with less than eight minutes left in... The injury occurred as Daniels went down on a two-yard sack. Head coach Dan Quinn said after the game that Daniels suffered a left elbow injury and would have more updates later in the week. The game itself was a mixture of a standout performance from the Seahawks on both sides of the field and the Commanders' self-inflicted errors. While the offense backed itself up with personal foul penalties, the defense struggled to contain Sam Darnold, who completed his first 16 passes and tossed four touchdown passes -- a career-high for the veteran.
It was 28-0 before the Commanders mustered a response, and the night ended with the Commanders still looking for answers. (AP Photo/Nick Wass) Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels dislocated his left elbow in the fourth quarter of Sunday night's 38-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Daniels will have an MRI on Monday to determine how long he's out, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per sources informed of the plan.
The belief, per Rapoport, is that the injury (to his non-throwing arm) might not be as bad as it could have been, but the signal-caller is expected to miss several games. Commanders coach Dan Quinn confirmed on Monday that Daniels dislocated his elbow but did not provide a timetable for the QB's return. The second-year quarterback suffered the injury when he was sacked by Seahawks defender Drake Thomas and was awkwardly slung to the ground. The serious nature of the injury was immediately evident, and Daniels' arm was quickly put into an air cast. The Commanders (3-6) trailed the Seahawks, 38-7, with less than 8 minutes remaining when Daniels exited. Quinn said after the game there wasn't a conversation about pulling Daniels from the blowout loss, but he understands that it would have made sense in "hindsight."
The Washington Commanders are still in the loss column after a 38-14 defeat against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 9's edition of Sunday Night Football, but that isn't the biggest blow of the night. While playing in the fourth quarter of a blowout game, quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a left arm injury on a hip drop tackle that forced him to miss the remainder of the contest. The injury could be serious for Daniels, especially after he suffered a knee sprain and hamstring ailment earlier in the year. READ MORE: Jayden Daniels suffers horrific injury that could end Commanders season Before Daniels got hurt, wide receiver Luke McCaffrey suffered an injury on the opening kickoff and things just continued to go downhill from there. The Seahawks pounced on a vulnerable Commanders team and put their foot on the gas.
Wide receiver Tory Horton had a pair of touchdowns early from quarterback Sam Darnold. Then, tight ends Elijah Arroyo and Cody Allen each scored their first NFL touchdowns, putting the Seahawks up 28-0 before the teams went to the locker room. The hits just keep coming for the Washington Commanders. In a game where Washington already lost wide receiver Luke McCaffrey and cornerback Marshon Lattimore due to injuries, and entered the contest missing wide receiver Terry McLaurin, second-year quarterback Jayden Daniels now joins his... Upon first glance, his left elbow appeared to hyperextend when his left hand made contact with the ground to try to avoid being tackled while rushing to the end zone. NBC's broadcast captured the moment Daniels' arm looked to dislocate from its socket, as his left arm crumpled behind his back, and he collapsed to the ground.
The trainers were immediately on the field to put an air cast on Daniels' injured arm, and while the injury cart was brought out, Daniels left the field and entered the locker room of... X-rays did not reveal a fracture, another league source said, but Daniels will undergo further testing on Monday to determine the full extent of the injury and his expected recovery time. Daniels’ left (non-throwing) arm bent backward severely at the elbow as he landed with his full body weight while being sacked near Seattle’s goal line. He writhed in pain as the Commanders’ medical staff rushed to his side and teammates dropped to one knee. Daniels’ left arm was put in a large air cast as the entire Washington bench came to his side and a cart pulled up to take him to the locker room. “Gut-wrenching,” right guard Sam Cosmi said of the moment. “You could just hear the air being taken out of everybody in the stadium.”
When the Washington Commanders and their fans remember this season, perhaps even years from now, they probably will have the same nightmarish moment seared in their minds: Jayden Daniels scrambling to his right, still... Seattle Seahawks linebacker Drake Thomas wrapping his arms around the quarterback and spinning him to the ground. Daniels bracing against the turf and grimacing behind his face mask as his left elbow bent in a way that elbows should not bend.
