Commanders 7 Round 2026 Mock Draft As College Football Madness Begins
Excitement is building ahead of the NFL season. The Washington Commanders look primed for another deep postseason run if everyone gets a clear run of luck on the health front. But for those in the front office and scouting department, attention is elsewhere. The college football campaign is officially underway. That means draft plans are already being formed behind the scenes as prospects increase or diminish their stock based on performances in a high-profile setting. Considering how the Commanders are always thinking two steps ahead with general manager Adam Peters leading the charge, the hard work has already begun to ensure Washington hits the ground running when the offseason...
And after two good drafts from the front-office leader so far, another will put this storied franchise on the right path to long-term prosperity. The Commanders have six picks as things stand. They don't have second or fourth-round selections right now after acquiring five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil from the Houston Texans. However, they got an extra sixth-rounder by shipping running back Brian Robinson Jr. to the San Francisco 49ers. A lot can and will change in the coming months.
But using the Pro Football Network simulator, we took an early look at what the Commanders might need in this seven-round mock draft. There are still seven games remaining for the Washington Commanders in 2025. But with the season spiraling into irrelevancy when much more was expected, some sections of the fan base are already looking ahead to what promises to be a pivotal offseason for general manager Adam... The front-office leader has a significant amount of hard work ahead. Washington has roster holes everywhere you look. Peters' gamble to run it back with most of the squad that achieved so much in 2024 has backfired.
A disastrous run of luck on the injury front hasn't helped, but it's clear that this squad, as presently constructed, isn't capable of reaching the heights fans anticipated. Peters could have over $100 million to spend in free agency, and he'd be wise to use every cent before Year 3 of quarterback Jayden Daniels' rookie contract. The Commanders stood pat at the 2025 trade deadline, which was surprising to most, leaving Peters with only six selections in next year's draft to utilize. Not exactly ideal, but the former San Francisco 49ers executive will have to make the best out of a bad situation. Using the Pro Football Network simulator, we took a look at how the Commanders could approach their selections in our latest seven-round 2026 NFL mock draft. It's no secret that the Washington Commanders need to get more explosive on the defensive edge.
Only Dorance Armstrong Jr. is guaranteed to be back next season, but even the ascending defensive end is in the final year of his deal in 2026. The Washington Commanders were one of the biggest surprises of the 2024 season, fueled by Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels. With their franchise quarterback in place — and still on a rookie contract — the future looks bright in Washington, but there’s still plenty of work to be done to strengthen the roster. While upgrading the offensive skill positions will be a priority, the Commanders also need reinforcements along the offensive line and defense. With $68.8 million in effective cap space, they’ll be a team to watch in free agency, but they should also have ample opportunities to add talent through the draft.
Barron would be a major addition for the Commanders, bringing versatility and high-level ball production to the secondary. He was a standout in coverage last season, allowing just a 53.6% completion rate on throws into his coverage. He recorded five interceptions, broke up 10 more passes and didn’t surrender a single touchdown all season. Injuries slowed Williams in the postseason, but he was outstanding throughout the 2024 regular season. In pass protection, he allowed just three sacks and two quarterback hits. Ferguson was a consistent chain-mover for the Ducks in 2024, with 31 of his 46 receptions resulting in first downs.
He also proved to be a big-play threat, recording 18 explosive catches of 15 or more yards. The Washington Commanders are looking to build on a good foundation year for head coach Dan Quinn and quarterback Jayden Daniels. They exceeded all expectations, advancing to the NFC Championship game in their first season. The team would now be looking to build on that momentum by surrounding Daniels with more talent. They have already brought in wide receiver Deebo Samuel and will add more pieces in the NFL. The latest 7-round mock draft from PFSN by Ian Cummings projects what the Washington Commanders will do in the upcoming NFL draft.
The Washington Commanders’ approach to free agency leaves them with complete flexibility on draft day. They could go with a Round 1 EDGE, or a CB, but can also afford to take a highly graded player at RB if the board falls their way. Omarion Hampton is very well-regarded in the 2025 NFL Draft. He has similar size and physicality to Brian Robinson Jr., but is superior to Robinson with his speed, second-level creative IQ, and pass-game ability. For Washington, this is pressing the ‘upgrade’ button. In this scenario, the Commanders move down nine spots in exchange for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 107th pick in round 4 and their 2026 4th-round pick.
The Washington Commanders spent their first-round pick on Josh Conerly Jr. and traded for left tackle Laremy Tunsil. This can hopefully provide a bookend edge protection tandem that Jayden Daniels can depend upon long-term. That's the best-case scenario, but no NFL team should get complacent when it comes to depth. Trent Scott, Andrew Wylie, and George Fant will be free agents next spring, so drafting a developmental tackle to sit behind the projected starting pair wouldn't be the worst idea in the world. McKale Boley is an interesting prospect.
The 6-foot-5, 316-pound lineman started his football journey on the defensive front before switching to the opposite trench. He's a fluid mover with sound hand placement and enough core functional strength to hold his own against the run. Some technical refinements are needed, but there is enough to suggest Boley can become a decent pro if the required developments arrive in the coming months. Washington's cornerback unit could become an area of strength this season. Four-time Pro Bowl veteran Marshon Lattimore and second-round rookie Trey Amos will start on the boundary. Mike Sainristil is a superstar in waiting.
Jonathan Jones and Noah Igbinoghene provide decent depth, so this could be a highly productive group if everyone stays healthy. There is a long way to go and a lot of football to come before the 2026 NFL Draft. But make no mistake, general manager Adam Peters' accomplished front-office staff will already be analyzing college football's latest stars before the all-important assessment process. The Washington Commanders don't have much in the way of picks once again. They are slated to have just five selections after some frantic trade activity during the offseason. That reduces the margin for error, but Peters has already proven capable of doing more with less.
Needs will change depending on how things unfold in the coming months. But for now, we took a look at some early perceptions in a seven-round 2026 mock draft using the Pro Football Network simulator. Bobby Wagner is a phenomenal player, but he isn't getting any younger. The Commanders need to find a long-term replacement for the future Pro Football Hall of Famer. Adding Anthony Hill Jr. would solve more problems than one.
Hill is a dynamic second-level presence. The Texas standout is explosive to the contact point, is a legitimate sideline-to-sideline presence, and can make things happen in pass-rushing situations. Placing him next to Frankie Luvu would instantly be a ferocious tandem if this is Wagner's final season. Adam Peters made the aggressive moves needed to potentially keep the Washington Commanders in the Super Bowl hunt during the offseason. Unfortunately, things have not gone as anyone associated with the franchise expected. It's been one disaster after another for the Commanders at the midseason point.
Injuries have decimated the roster. Young players expected to progress haven't lived up to their billing. The NFL's oldest roster looks exactly that — a massive problem holding the team back right now. Peters opted to stand pat at the 2025 trade deadline. Fans were anticipating a couple of outgoings, given the Commanders' slow start this season. But either no suitable interest arrived, or the offers weren't enough for the front-office leader to remove certain players from the equation.
The Commanders will move forward with what they have over the second half of 2025. Even so, it's clear that Peters has an awful lot of hard work ahead when the next offseason arrives to get this ambitious project back on track. Using the Pro Football Network simulator, we took an early look at how Peters might approach his draft picks in a special seven-round midseason mock.
