Colorado International Language Academy Language Immersion
Immersion is the method by which we all learn our native language. As infants, we are surrounded by people speaking a specific language, like we are surround by the air we breathe, and we learn our first language rapidly and with ease. Immersion education in a second language takes the same approach. At Colorado International Language Academy, students spend their day immersed in a second language as they use their natural ability to learn the new language. Learning a second language in this way when young is much easier than learning it later in life. Academic achievement levels of children educated in a second language using an immersion program often surpass those of children educated solely in English.
Our world is becoming more global and interdependent, and there will be increased demand for people who can understand other cultures and communicate with people in other languages. Along with being immersed in another language, they are learning about other world cultures and how to be accepting, respectful and embrace diversity.
When a problem arises, the school staff has worked quickly to solve the problem and improve their educational practices. This school is a wonderful learning community for my children!" "I was very impressed by my daughter's language acquisition and reading level in kindergarten at CILA and I am grateful for her experience there. I love the diversity that is within the community, which is rare for Colorado Springs." "My daughter has attended CILA since Pre-K and is now in the 4th grade. Beginning in 1st, she was switched into their dual language program, which means she learns in Chinese for half the day and Spanish for the other half.
I have been consistently impressed with not only her language acquisition, but also her academic gains. She is in the GT program and scores in the 99th percentile for math every year. As a teacher, I understand the challenge of keeping a high performing student consistently performing high and to not drop. My daughter's test scores reflect her growth, which is a credit to her teachers. She is thriving at CILA and I highly recommend this school, as they emphasize educating the whole child through language, culture, and academics." Only 9% of Americans can speak their native language plus another language fluently, as opposed to 53% of Europeans. The large, growing deficiency in world languages and cultures compromises American security and business interests at home and abroad. The careers in which knowledge of a second world language is an asset or a requirement is extensive and includes Communications, Business, U.S. Government (Military and the State Department), Travel & Tourism, Education, Medicine, and Social Services.
Ultimately, the decision on which language to choose is a very personal one and should be met with a good deal of forethought. Whatever language you choose for your child, you should be prepared to support them in this long term commitment of becoming bilingual. German is the most widely spoken language in Europe. More people speak German as their native language than any other language in Europe. Germany’s 83 million inhabitants make it the most populous European nation. Not only the residents of Germany speak German, but it is also an official language of Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Liechtenstein.
