Kirk, a 31-year-old conservative influencer and President Donald Trump ally, was fatally shot at Utah Valley University in Orem on Wednesday during a question-and-answer session on campus. Kirk was the founder and executive director of Turning Point USA and a frequent political commentator and organizer. While it is not known why he was shot, his killing comes amid concerns of deepening political polarization and violence in the U.S. In June, Minnesota Democratic state Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband were shot and killed in a targeted political act. He was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police have also released two photos of a “person of interest” as the manhunt for Charlie Kirk’s killer remains ongoing as of Thursday. The images showed a man wearing a hat, sunglasses and a dark shirt which appeared to have an image of the American flag on it.
