Browns Land Their Qb In Dane Brugler S 7 Round Mock Draft
We are nearing the end of mock draft season as the Cleveland Browns are almost on the clock with the 2025 NFL draft just one week away. With that being said, The Athletic's Dane Brugler dropped a massive full 257-pick mock draft. This is quite the undertaking, especially with a team like the Browns, who have a flurry of picks. So what kind of haul did he land for the Browns? We know what the team needs are as of now, but soon we will see how they plan to address them in the draft. Let's grade out every Browns' selection from this full seven-round mock from Brugler and find out:
Rare, blue-chip players like Travis Hunter do not come around often. And the Browns should not pass on him. They see him as a wide receiver first, but Hunter has stated he will demand to play both sides of the ball. This is fine from the Browns' perspective as they love to get more cornerbacks on the field. This is a roster-changing, high-character leader that the Browns cannot pass on the opportunity to select. I do not get the Dart hype.
He has a mid-level arm, has mid-level accuracy, and is a mid-level athlete. If you are taking a quarterback outside of the first round, there at least has to be something there to develop. With Dart, he's very much a "what you see is what you get player." Meanwhile, Jalen Milroe goes with the pick after him. The Cleveland Browns currently own the fourth overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft following their loss to the New York Jets, along with the 19th selection courtesy of the Jacksonville Jaguars. In this seven-round mock draft, the team takes a swing at a franchise quarterback and spend their first six picks on offensive players. We'll be using NFL Mock Draft Database's simulator for this mock, and the rule is that for each selection, a player must be ranked at or below ten spots higher than the pick slot...
This is to create some level of intrigue and variety with each selection, but to also add some degree of reality. Simpson's physical traits will be under scrutiny throughout the pre-draft process, as teams try to determine how high of a selection he is truly worth. However, his performance this year his difficult to argue with, as he's displayed excellent efficiency, throwing 21 touchdowns to only one interception. He's not elite in any area, but he's solid in just about all of them. He has enough arm strength to make all the throws, accuracy to fit the ball into NFL windows, solid athletic ability to manuever around within the pocket and to create outside of it, and... Simpson is a one-year starter, which is certainly concerning, but the fact that he'll end up having a larger sample size to work with due to the College Football Playoff is a positive.
He has a great chance this weekend to further solidify his stock, as the Crimson Tide face a top-10 defense in the Oklahoma Sooners. Simpson may not have the natural talent of a typical top QB prospect, but he's played great football this year, and if the Browns aren't picking first overall, they may not have much of... Billing Simpson as "better than nothing" is selling him short - he's a good prospect with an NFL future. Whether or not he's a true top-five prospect remains to be seen. The Browns need the Jaguars to continue losing games, otherwise, picking in the 18-22 range isn't going to land then a top offensive tackle or wide receiver prospect. With Jordyn Tyson, Carnell Tate, and Makai Lemon off the board, Denzel Boston from Washington is the next man up.
Standing 6-foot-4 209 pounds, he towers over the rest of Cleveland's WR room, offering them size they haven't had in a long time. He uses his frame to his advantage, hauling in 18 of 31 contested catches over the past two years. He's got 730 yards and eight scores on 52 grabs this season, including a 153-yard outburst against Illinois. If you've paid any attention in recent weeks to noise around Shedeur Sanders' stock heading into this draft, you'd think that the Colorado quarterback did something terribly wrong in a pre-draft interview or looked... But, none of the above has happened. Sanders has simply fallen victim to a painfully drawn out draft process, and he's gone from an almost obvious pick at second or third overall to a potential 2nd round pick in what feels...
There's always been questions about Sanders' athleticism and ability to stay out of trouble in the pocket, but he's proven he's ridiculously accurate as a passer and can tough out plays to drag his... But, while that was once endearing, it seems that teams now find it to be concerning. And, that likely includes the Cleveland Browns, who are reportedly not likely to look at Sanders at 2nd overall in the first round. That's what The Athletic and Dane Brugler seem to take into consideration with his latest 7-round mock draft. Ah, the Browns. No other NFL team has a lower projected win total from the oddsmakers, with Cleveland's 2025 over-under at 4.5 wins and a massive, fully guaranteed contract still owed to injured QB Deshaun Watson.
Kevin Stefanski will be coaching with his job on the line in 2025 and there are positional needs all over, including at quarterback. Cleveland has 10 picks, one short of the NFL high entering the draft, but five of them are in the sixth and seventh rounds. So it might make sense to consolidate and use any of the four sixth-rounders to move up a bit. We won't project trades in this mock, but if the Browns pass on a quarterback at No. 2 overall, we could definitely see them packaging picks to move up from No. 33 and get back into the first round for a passer, especially if the right one falls past the Steelers at No.
21. First round, second overall: CB/WR Travis Hunter, Colorado It has been a long and painful search for the Browns, trying to land a franchise quarterback, and Baker Mayfield's success in Tampa only adds to the frustration of a terrible decision to invest... Even with all that, this isn't a great year for quarterbacks, so the Browns take a surer thing in Hunter, that rare athlete who can help on both sides of the ball. He'll probably have a bigger impact on defense, where he can step in as a corner bookend with Denzel Ward, but Cleveland sorely needs help at receiver, so even in a moonlighting role, Hunter... Complications with Deshaun Watson’s recovery from an Achilles injury have seemingly opened the door for the Cleveland Browns to consider selecting a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, that’s just one of several key concerns for Cleveland, as holes remain on both sides of the ball. With limited flexibility in free agency, the Browns will likely rely on their draft capital to address multiple needs, including offensive tackle, cornerback and wide receiver. Ward has all the physical tools to succeed as an NFL quarterback and thrives on deep throws. His 29 big-time throws on passes of 20-plus yards in 2024 ranked second in the nation, as did his 131.5 NFL passer rating on those attempts.
While not a first-round-caliber athlete, Amos has the size and physicality to thrive at the next level as a man coverage corner. His ball production was elite in 2024, as he tallied three interceptions and an impressive 15 forced incompletions for Ole Miss. Neal is a versatile back who excels as both a runner and receiver. Over the past two seasons at Kansas, he forced a combined 127 missed tackles on runs and receptions. A week after releasing his annual NFL Draft guide, “The Beast,” The Athletic’s Dane Brugler had a full seven-round mock draft go live. His six picks for Cleveland included one name we’ve long been circling and a bunch of others who probably aren’t known to many Browns fans.
Dane Brugler's 7-round 2024 NFL mock draft: Predicting all 257 picks What, you haven’t been studying Yale’s offensive line? Well, Brugler has. And his final Browns mock starts with an LSU defensive tackle and then goes to Yale for an intriguing offensive line prospect. Maason Smith was my pick for the Browns in my mock draft 1.0. Though I’m still thinking general manager Andrew Berry will look to trade out of No.
54 and pick up a fourth-round selection (or a similar package of picks), I believe Smith is the kind of player the Browns will target whether they stay put or move down. We're down to nearly one week until the 2025 NFL draft begins April 24 from Green Bay, Wisconsin. That Thursday night will begin three days of madness as 32 NFL teams make 257 total picks to shape the next crop of professional talent. The first few picks of Round 1 have become clear over the last few months of the NFL draft process. Miami quarterback Cam Ward, Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter and Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter are expected to go in the first three selections in some order. 2025 NFL draft: Pro comparisons for Travis Hunter, Abdul Carter, top prospects
After that, things can be pretty wide open and fans of all 32 teams are meticulously combing through the latest mock drafts to get some clues as to what their favorite franchise will do... On April 16, one of the most respected evaluators in NFL draft coverage, The Athletic's Dane Brugler, released a seven-round mock draft of all 257 picks. It's a lot to get through so here are some takeaways from his latest predictions:
