ORCHARD PARK - Losing to the New England Patriots is something the Buffalo Bills are quite familiar with. After all, they spent almost the entire first two decades of the 21st century turning that particular endeavor into an art form. And now, after five glorious years of exacting a little revenge with numerous beatdowns of the Patriots - though not nearly enough - on the way to five straight AFC East titles, Sunday night... The Bills have to wrap their heads around the fact that New England is good again, as was evidenced in its 23-20 victory over the no longer unbeaten Bills in front of a sellout... The Patriots have climbed out of the abyss they were in the past two seasons when they won just eight of 34 games, and they now have a legitimate, respected head coach and a... Drake Maye, the No.

Just two weeks ago, Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes met at Highmark Stadium in what was then a matchup of the top two betting favorites for the NFL MVP award.

The Bills played their best game of the season, and Allen notched three total touchdowns in a 28-21 win with millions of American TV viewers tuned in. Then there was last week. The Bills played below their competition in a 30-13 loss at Miami, and Allen reverted to some bad habits, trying too hard to make a big play when he could have made smarter, safer... As a result, the reigning MVP is now getting the fifth-best odds to repeat this season, tumbling to +750 at most major sportsbooks. Like the Bills themselves, Allen has to get back on track. New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye.

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford. Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen recently made headlines when he offered high praise for his AFC East rival, New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye. Despite being competitors on the field, it seems that these two talented players have developed a mutual respect and admiration for each other. In a recent interview, Allen spoke highly of Maye, applauding his skills both on and off the field. “Drake is an incredible athlete and a true leader,” Allen stated.

“I have a lot of respect for the way he plays the game and the way he carries himself.” This praise from Allen is not to be taken lightly. As a rising star in the league, Allen has been making waves with his own impressive play and has quickly become one of the most talked-about quarterbacks in the NFL. So, to have him speak so highly of a division rival is certainly noteworthy. But for those who have been following Maye’s career, this high praise may not come as a surprise. The young quarterback has been making a name for himself since his college days, where he proved to be a dynamic playmaker for the University of North Carolina.

His talent and leadership qualities caught the attention of the New England Patriots, who drafted him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Since joining the Patriots, Maye has continued to impress with his impressive performances on the field. His quick decision-making, accuracy, and strong arm have helped lead the team to several victories. But it’s not just his physical abilities that have caught the eye of players like Allen. Maye’s work ethic and determination to improve have also been praised by coaches and teammates. The New England Patriots entered their Week 5 Sunday Night Football matchup against the Buffalo as significant underdogs.

Not only were the Patriots on the road, but they were also going up against the undefeated Bills and the reigning NFL MVP, Josh Allen. None of that fazed Drake Maye, however, who led New England to a shocking 23-20 upset in his first career primetime game. The 23-year-old quarterback delivered one of the best performances of his young career thus far, completing 22 of 30 passes for 273 yards and a 101.1 passer rating. He also added 12 yards on three rushing attempts. The big key for Maye was not making any major mistakes. He didn’t turn the ball over and played a clean game, hitting 73.3% of his passes and keeping the chains moving.

Meanwhile, Allen turned the ball over twice via an interception and a fumble. He played well otherwise with over 300 total yards (passing and rushing) and two touchdown passes, but it wasn’t enough. The New England Patriots have beaten the Buffalo Bills 23-20 on the road, knocking off the final remaining undefeated team in the NFL this season. Rookie Patriots kicker Andy Borregales hit a 52-yard field goal in the final seconds to complete the upset victory. Drake Maye dazzled for the visitors, throwing for 273 yards and making several highlight-reel plays. Stefon Diggs caught 10 passes for 146 yards in his first game at Highmark Stadium since leaving the Bills after the 2023 season, while Rhamondre Stevenson rushed for two touchdowns.

Josh Allen threw for 253 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the loss, but committed two turnovers as Buffalo lost the turnover battle 3-1. The Patriots improved to 3-2 and pulled within one game of the AFC East-leading Bills, who fell to 4-1.
