Gunner Stockton threw four touchdown passes — two to Noah Thomas — and ran for a score to outplay Arch Manning as No.

How many of the 45 WRs selected in the first round since the 2015 NFL Draft can you name in five minutes? One could argue the first-year starters lack the experience required to succeed in the NFL. There reaches a tipping point in the media exposure of any public figure where the narrative surrounding them diverges to the polar extremes and the truth becomes difficult to find. This is most obvious with politicians, but applies to big-name athletes as well. Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders fit that bill last year, and now Texas quarterback Arch Manning has taken up that mantle. The general public had the younger Manning's name force-fed to them so much before he'd done a meaningful thing on a football field, that they were chomping at the bit to tear down the...
Of course, their problem isn't with Manning himself (although for some miserable people it probably is), but rather with what they see as a dishonest media trying to push a narrative for clicks. While that's a completely reasonable pushback, it unfortunately has made any reasonable discussion around the next generation Manning impossible. You need look no further than the replies to Yahoo Sports' Nate Tice and his assessment of Manning's draft stock last week for evidence of that. Tice said that if Manning declared, he would be the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Tice is arguably the single most respected NFL film analyst in the industry and would not put out a take for any reason other than he had evidence for it, but even that reputation...
So where does the truth lie? Is Manning closer to the most overhyped college football player of all time or the No. 1 overall pick? I went through his tape this season and graded out how he stands in the five most important aspects of playing quarterback: decision-making, pocket presence, playmaking, accuracy and NFL throws. This was easily the most difficult aspect of Manning's game to evaluate because it would change so much week-to-week. While he was uber-aggressive and turnover-prone early in the season, Manning became far more conservative after his two-interception outing against Florida before striking a perfect balance in his final two games.
You can see his turnover-worthy play rates and average depth of target over those stretches below. We can sometimes overread trends into what is often normal variance in performance, but on tape it's obvious Manning was a more comfortable player later in the season compared to early on. That being said, there are still numerous issues with his decision-making evaluators will want to see cleaned up. The two biggest are turning down easy completions and pre-determining two- or three-man concepts. Arch Manning’s first full regular season as Texas football’s starting quarterback is officially in the books. Following a game in which he had a career-high passing yards against Arkansas, the Longhorns quarterback carved up the defense of the No.
3 team in the nation, completing 14 of 19 passes for 179 yards and two combined touchdowns in a 27-17 win over Texas A&M on Friday, Nov. 28 at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas. With the win, Manning has led a third top-15 victory for the Longhorns, also improving his record to 11-3 as the Longhorn's starting quarterback of the last two seasons. Manning had a rather uninspiring first half, as he completed 8 of 21 passes for just 51 yards with no touchdowns. The 6-foot-4 quarterback got Texas into field goal position just before halftime with an 11-yard dump pass to Quintrevion Wisner, but took a rather costly 8-yard sack three plays later to take the Longhorns... He significantly improved his stats in the second half.
A 29-yard pass to Ryan Wingo and a 35-yard rushing touchdown of his own served to be Manning's biggest plays in the final 30 minutes. 2025 college football predictions: Fade Texas and Ohio State for national championship AUSTIN, Texas — Arch Manning threw a touchdown pass and ran for the clinching score late in the fourth quarter and No. 16 Texas beat No. 3 Texas A&M 27-17 on Friday night to spoil the Aggies’ undefeated season and knock them out of the Southeastern Conference championship game. Manning’s 29-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Wingo in the third quarter gave Texas (9-3, 6-2 SEC, No, 16 CFP) a 13-10 lead in what had been a tight, defensive game. His 35-yard run up the middle on third down with 7:04 left to play put the Longhorns up 27-17.
Texas, which started the season No. 1 and at one point was unranked, beat a top-10 opponent for the third time this season to keep alive any faint hopes of making the College Football Playoff for the third consecutive time. “We are absolutely a playoff team,” Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said, “and worthy of an opportunity to play for a national championship.”
