Tina Eliassi-Rad met with students on the Oakland campus to discuss concerns about possible job loss and environmental impacts of AI OAKLAND, Calif. — When Northeastern University student Duo Xu thinks about her future career in computer science, she wonders about the impact of AI. Then she heard a promising perspective from one of the leading minds in the field.

“What can I do to prepare, if so many jobs will be occupied by AI?” Xu asked. Tina Eliassi-Rad, the inaugural Joseph E. Aoun professor of computer science at Northeastern University, had the answer. We are a research institute advancing Responsible AI solutions, solving high-impact challenges, and pioneering experiential AI education. Experiential AI is simply AI with a human-in-the-loop. World class experts solving the biggest challenges in Life Sciences, Health, Climate, Responsible AI, and Generative AI.

Our 90+ faculty members from across Northeastern University push the frontiers of technology and solve problems. Helping organizations navigate the complex and emerging challenges of AI. Applying the latest techniques from the field of artificial intelligence to solve real-world problems. This series of AI in Action workshops was designed to keep you on the forefront—whether you’re new to AI or have joined us for a previous AI in Action series. AI in Action is a five-day experience designed to fuel your curiosity, enhance your technical skills, and broaden your horizons in the rapidly evolving world of Artificial Intelligence. This experience brings together the Northeastern community for a series of engaging virtual and in-person sessions to explore applications of AI across a wide range of fields and disciplines. All students in the Northeastern network are invited to participate and earn a digital badge to demonstrate AI literacy. Explore the myriad ways AI is solving real-world problems and fueling impact. A group of 28 graduate students from Northeastern’s Seattle campus visited the university’s Silicon Valley campus and vice versa for AI Immersion week held during spring break. Students attended workshops, industry panels, and a hackathon. Surya Shivam, MS’26, information systems, led a team that designed an AI-integrated invoice fraud detection system. Shivam was one of 28 Northeastern University graduate students who spent spring break digging deep into all aspects of AI— from its impact on business to prompt engineering and building their own AI-powered agents. Students on the Seattle campus traveled to the Silicon Valley campus and vice versa to attend industry panels and participate in a hackathon.
