PROVO, UT -- Text messages allegedly sent by the man accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk include a confession and a possible motive for why the suspect carried out the killing.

During a press conference Tuesday, Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray revealed the texts where he also announced charges against the alleged shooter, identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. Gray said that the text messages began with Robinson sending his roommate -- who has not been publicly identified -- a message that read “drop what you’re doing, look under my keyboard.” Prosecutors allege that the roommate found a note which read “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.” Police say they recovered a photo of the note. From there, the following text exchange took place between Robinson and the roommate: Roommate: What??????? You’re joking, right?????
